which coach??
When thinking of a newer coach which is the most reliable and easier on mantenence cost. the XLll or the H3-45? I am considering 2001 to 2005. Also how reliable are those with slides? I currently have an XLV but really like the updated body style. any thoughts wou ld be appreciated. thanks

I cannot imagine there being a difference in maintenance or cost of operation. A pre EGR coach is going to be a far better choice than an EGR coach in my opinion.

Can we have an article submited by you that is a “key” to all of acronyms and all of their definitions for these beasts we call busses?
I know an EGR being associated with my ford dually.

EGR is short for Exhaust Gas Recirculation.
To meet the emissions standards in around 2004 or late 2003 the coach engines were equipped to have EGR. It allows the engine to meet the emissions standards, but at the expense of fuel mileage, perhaps engine life and more maintenance expense.
It is a complex issue because as coaches get newer the emissions systems get more elaborate which translates into greater compromise for the owners. But as coaches get newer, Prevost and the converters have created a better product with greater features so on one hand you give up something, but it is compensated by having a coach with better and more capable house features and systems.

Did not know that. Jon thank you for your info. Seems like I read somewhere that the XL was preferred over the H3-45. Just did not know if that was a fact or not. -

The choice of an H3 over an XL or XLII is strictly based on personal needs and preferences unrelated to engines, or engines with emissions controls, IFS or solid axle, OTR or no OTR, or any other features either shell may shgare.
Both share engines, slides or no slides, and all the other Prevost features.
Choosing between the two usually is not a difficult decision because each has its own attributes.

I am eading that the slide in 2001 and 2002 were troublesome. What are your thougths? Any years to stay away from?

This is only anecdotal……….The first few versions of slides were a challenge for owners and Prevost. Based on posts for the last several years however we almost never read of slide problems. By problems I do not mean expected maintenance such as slide seal replacement.
I think Prevost had four or five versions of slides, each one an improvement over the previous version. I think whatever issues each version had must have been resolved because unlike the early days when Prevost seemed to have most of its motorhome service work invoilving slides, I cannot remember the last time I was at a Prevost service center and saw slides being serviced.
Anyone with an early version of Prevost slides having unresolved issues???????
