  • Wheels?

Are the wheels on our buses the same as on semis? On a trip up to CT last week, I found I had cracked a steer wheel after several hundred miles of pot hole infested roads. The wheels on the drive axle are stamped 22.5×8.25. I assume the wheels are the same size all the way around, but you know what they say about assuming. Some have told me that I may have bigger wheels on the steers. I know that I’m having a hard time finding 22.5 stud piloted wheels of any size.

On my 93 the front is 8.25 x 22.5 they have 12R22.5 mounted on them. All positions as I recall. Yours is likely the same.

Thanks Joe. So that is compatible with semi wheels. That will help. I did find a guy in Vegas with a full set of the small hole Prevost wheels with 70% Michelins on them for $2100. Haven’t checked to see what shipping to Nashville would do to that cost though. I had planned to later change to the oval hole wheels. The cracked wheel brings that decision to the forefront.

Dale get on the phone and call Jeff R and have a wheel shipped to you and use the old tire. 2100 for wheels you are going to have to change later is just wrong.

Check the date codes on any used tire you intend to purchase. Beyond that, I’m very cautious about used tires because you don’t know if it has ever been run underinflated and damaged. By the way, it MAY be possible to change to hub piloted wheels with only a stud change…it was on my 1999 chassis.
