If I park in my driveway I use them. Never use them any other time.

My driveway has a slight slope.

His driveway is like a freaking ski slope, chalks are an absolute necessity. I don’t carry any.

I don’t have have chocks but thought about getting a set. They don’t really weight much so not a biggie.

Of course we have the safety cover on the emergency brake but I do have a fear of the coach rolling (don’t know why).

It would be nice to have a set to do the air brake test to prevent rolling.

Don’t carry them over the last 18-months on the road … wouldn’t have used them either.

I keep a set on the bus in the storage between the rear wheels. The good solid ones. I remember using them during my CDL test when I did the DOT brake test. They are pretty inexpensive and you never know!

Our parking brakes are going to determine if we need wheel chocks or not.

Early vintage coaches only had spring (parking) brakes on the drive axle, and they were marginal on my driveway. If everything was perfect they would hold my coach against rolling on my driveway. If the internal spring was broken they would not hold the coach.

Later models (somewhere in the mid nineties?) our coaches got spring brakes on both the tag and drive axles and they hold even my 53,000 pound coach on my driveway. My point is if the brakes are in good shape we likely do not need chocks to hold the coach. But if the coach is on a steep slope and there is a problem with the parking brakes chocks become very important.

But keep in mind something I know for sure. If you are on a steep slope such as my driveway and you use large chocks a coach with the brakes released or not working as they should the coach will literally climb over the chocks.

If you are going to do a pre-trip brake inspection or test my free advice is to just find a good level spot for when the parking brakes are released.
