  • Whats warm in engine area

Posted by Robert on October 9, 2014 at 9:04 pm

all switches are off 12v and 24 v off chargers off shore power off still yet there is a warm feeling in the air that comes from the engine compartment. no hidden chargers 94 prevost 95 Liberty Lady does have the equalizer. Cant tell where the warmth is coming from. But i am sure it uses battery power.

Did your electric engine block heater get switched on?

its not on in the breaker panel would there be another switch for the block heater?? there is a scotty isolator in the 12 volt house power bay. still wondering if maybe it charges the batteries in engine compartment off of the heart inverter chargers

Feel around to try to find where the warmth is coming from. Put your hands on everything such as the engine block (all around it), the equalizers, batteries, battery charger, etc.

When a coach has cooled down, unless you have as Davy suggests a block heater on, or are charging the chassis batteries, or perhaps an Aquahot or Webasto is on there should be nothing warm in that area.

If it’s not the block heater, my 94 Liberty had a chassis battery charger mounted on the wall in the 2nd bay back on the drivers side. If you have one and it’s just a 1 stage charger it will heat up the chassis batteries as well as cook them.

I should note that Tom’s Liberty had a non standard bay configuration. If you have a chassis battery charger look over the chassis batteries on the ceiling. That may be where your charger is located.

You also should have a circuit breaker labeled 24 volt charger in the electrical panel. If so make sure that is off.

In a Liberty, if you have a block heater the switch is in the 120 volt electric panel.
