What wheel bearing oil in the hubs?
I know it may be a elementary question, but I want to be cautious and make sure I am using the right gear oil for the wheel bearings.I have a 1983 coach…. Yes it may be a vintage, but it is really a nice coach and has been updated.
Anyway, I am going over the coach prior to a cross country trip and in the event I need to top off the wheels, I was wondering what type would be acceptable or if you would suggest I call prevost?

My coach calls for multigrade gear oil MIL- L- 2105-D 85W140 with a note that full synthetic can be used. Be careful not to overfill. -
George gave you good advice. When checking or filling hubs, first make sure there are no hub seal leaks. If so get them repaired because in a short time they can affect your brake shoes by coating them with oil.
When you fill the typical level is about 1/8 to 1/4 inch above the bottom of the clear plastic center section. Make sure the needle hole in the center of the rubber cap is open. That is needed to allow pressure to release as the hub warms up.

I recently replaced all my hubcaps (only because someone had painted over the plastic “windows”). I like to check my hub oil during pretrip inspection so I can detect any leaks quickly. Pulling the plug to check the oil was a pain. I used Lucus hub oil. I don’t remember the viscosity. Got it at the local Freightliner dealer. All the other advice is spot on.
Similar vintage! Mine is an ’82.
