What is this barrel for?
While replacing my water pumps in the bay, behind them I see a large “white fibreglas barrel” capable of holding 20 gallons or more of something. I finally was able to feel the top of it and it appears that the top is completely open. It has nothing in it. I am puzzled as to whether or not at some point the barrel had a function or if it is supposed to have a function… I do not think it is functioning.
I have replaced all of the hoses and water pumps… no leaks on the work done but I still have a leak to find and the bottom of this darn barrel seems moist…
In addition, is there any reason why a hose coming out of the bottom of the water tank going to the water pump “strainer” would not have water in it?
With these questions, you can see why I stick to the oil and gas business.
Any thoughts from anyone?

The only thing I can think of is something to do with a water softener. But without a picture that’s a complete guess.

I have a barrel like that (I’d call it a tube) in my water bay. From the other side I could see it was the holder for my shore power cord. In our bus, the motor for the shore power dumps the cord into that big white tube. Maybe that’s what it is (or was?) -
I agree the barrell sounds like it was home to your shore cord reel at some point. Does this mean you are getting no water from the water pumps? Water in the tank and none in the stainer would mean blockage in tank or a shut off hidden.

I believe the barrel is for the cord…duh! on me. I had no idea…. it is impossible to see the top …
I will try to determine the reason the vacum pump is not pulling the water through if blocked. The new pump works fine but the second one sounds weak and it is going to get replaced. It is the one where the water is not going through the strainer.So. from a Iay person’s explanation, I assume that the pump must “pull” the water first from the tank and then “push” it out the outet to the faucets.
