What is the standard rear axle ratio ?
Hey all, tried a few searches and did not see anything definitive, I am sure Prevost offered different rear end gears over the years but I am wondering what axle ratio a 2002 XLll 40ft would have. 4.56?
Did Prevost offer different gears with the Allison 6 speed? Different gears between the 40 and 45 footers?
I forgot to jot down the numbers on my quick test drive and wondering what the bus cruises at around 60 mph in 6th and in 5th. I am assuming 22.5 low profile rubber (pretty sure that is what the Michelins were.
I like to drive 57-59 mph, right now in my Duramax with 6 speed Allison and 3.73’s I cruise at 58 or so in 5th gear at about 1800 rpm, just a couple hundred above peak torque and this produces the best mpg.
I am wondering how you guys do it now, especially when pulling a toad/trailer!

The axle ratio listed for 40 and 45 foot XLII coaches is 4.56
I use either 5th or 6th for cruising, with 5th being for hill climbing at speeds above 55.
I use 6th at all other times and at 1500 I am cruising at around 62 to 64 MPH.

Gman. If you call Prevost parts in Elgin you can ask them to send you the build sheet for that bus. Just give them the tenth digit of vin and last four. The sheet swill show gearing, fuel tank size, part numbers for brake chambers etc. dial 1-800-421-9958 hit option one follow cue

That coach will be at 1500 rpm at 62 to 64 in sixth it will be a rocket. That coach was leaning the other day at Prevost do not know how long it’s been sitting there , but it has some air leaks

Hey Peter, it has been there going on 10 days or so, will have some leaks to chase for sure! Current owner says it starts to lean after about 4-5 days now. I will usually not be in one spot more than 24 hours but will work on em!
Jon, you always use 6th when towing other than going up grades?

99% of the time I let the transmission select the gear. When I know I have hill climbing to do I usually drop it into 5th, but only if it is the kind of hill I need 5th and some extra speed to be able to maintain a decent speed. Either that or I will use “performance” mode because once the engine starts to lug down I have lost the ability to hold speed.

Our coach has 4.56 also. 1400rpm in sixth at 60mph. Tires are Michelin 315/80-22.5.
