What is behind the generator radiator
My generator has been pulled from the bus to be repaired. So I decided to remove the radiator to check the fan belt on the fan that sits behind the radiator. It is not pretty. The sound insulation was completely disintegrated and falling off the walls. Some of it was resting on the motor pulley.
So I pulled out everything I could get to. What a miserable job. The insulation would just turn into a fine dust as soon as I touched it.
Any suggestions on what is best to put back on the walls for sound insulation?

Andre…the insulation on the door of the generator compartment was like yours….leaving a pile of foam dust as it disintergrated and falling off the door. After removing the old and cleaning the surface, I replaced it with this:

Andre, There is also a really thin 1/8 inch sound deadening stuff made in Tampa called “Acoustiblok” at www. acoustiblok.com
Cut with scissors to fit.

At Home Depot, you can buy a roll of the silver insulation (the type you see in car windows on hot days) … It comes in varying widths. I then use 3 M heavy duty adhesive and a strong pair of scissors. It not only looks great, it does the job well.

Is anyone worried about the new insulation being fire proof in case of a fire in the generator bay?

I used a 2” thick sound deadening insulation that is made for Yachts. Called Soundown, It is fire resistant to something around 400 degrees. Bought from a site called defender.com

It is not in the generator bay. The radiator is remote located in the water bay.

Andre: So this insulation is cut down the noise from fan moving air through the radiator? If so, likely makes a difference.

I guess that is why Liberty put it there. Only 2 things in that area, the fan for the radiator and the tub that holds the 50 AMP shore cord. I have no idea how much noise the fan makes without the insulation. About half of the insulation was already gone and what was left good not have been very effective.
