What do you use for internet access?
Since I am about to make a decision on some new wireless equipment and ISP, I am wondering what everyone uses for internet access while on the road?
I am leaning towards the Millenicom USB plug in device for $69/month for 50Gigs (which is ample) they use Sprint eqpmt and their network.

I use the Verizon Mi-Fi or sometimes called 5 Spot now for about 3 years and it works well. Mine is about 30 bucks a month and I’ve never exceeded the data plan.

I use a Autonet Mobile WiFi router with an external cellular antenna. It uses Verizon, Sprint and Altell. The Altell is very limited. Works great most of the time and provides a good WiFi signal inside the bus. If it gets too slow I try my iPhone’s hotspot feature for WiFi.

And am using an unlocked Sierra Wireless 313u USB modem, which I bought on Amazon for $90.00
I use it in conjunction with a wireless router (i.e. I plug the USB modem into the router) so that all of our toys (iPads, laptops, tablets) can share the connection.
I doubt that you would be getting 50GB for the price you quoted!
That is less money than what I pay for 5 GB of data!
Plus, I have read that Sprint has the worst coverage nationwide.
One thing that has not been mentioned anywhere, yet, is the use of a cellular booster.
I am going to install a WilsonWireless cellular data booster within the next couple of weeks because we will be up in Canada and not have the best of connections.
Furthermore, with an unlocked modem, I can buy a local SIM card from i.e. Rogers in Canada and not have to pay roaming charges to AT&T.
From all that I have read about zwilson boosters, they really do work and give you a much stronger signal.

However, I too have heard Sprint is not the best coverage in the US.
We like to watch movies on Netflix and Hulu, so that is where the usage goes up to around 10-15 Gigs a month, if we watch one movie or a TV show each day.

I use an MBR 1000 router with a Sprint Merlin EX720 express card with an “unlimited” data plan and the service is awesome.. we used to use sprint for our cell phones but all their phones were crappy so we switched our cell phones over to AT&T so we could get iphones.. we switched them one at a time as each contract expired… I have put Sprint coverage versus ATT coverage to the side by side test on numerous occasions and have found Sprint to be much more reliable than ATT… that is in the areas that we travel in… which is from Texas to Florida… all over both states and in between…. The ATT would be searching twice as much as Sprint would be and the phones would be sitting side by side…. many times ATT would have no signal for many many miles and Sprint would be strong… very few occasions where it was the other way around.
Our internet setup has worked flawlessly for us… even though its somewhat out of date… I do however update the router and card everytime an update is available. We have NEVER been without WI-FI in the bus…. we do have a Wilson external antenna on top of the bus.
I am reluctant to change anything because I don’t want to lose my unlimited plan with Sprint as it is no longer offered and we have our phones… ipads… and laptops connected all the time. -
I use Verizon my-fi that will handle up to 5 devices. It works perfectly everywhere I have been. On my last coach, it had a “hot Spot” that used two Sprint cards. Sprint was not any good at all. Very poor coverage and even where it worked at all, it was weak and sorry! I ended up paying a cancellation charge to get rid of Sprint and switched to Verizon. Have used Verizon for over 4 years and I recommend it.

I use a Cradlepoint MBR 1000 router with a Verizon LG USB modem and have had good luck so far. I have the 5 gig plan on the modem. I have AT&T for cellular and have had better luck than with Verizon for that. I have my Crestron stuff and a printer on the network in the bus. Works great.

I use Wi-Fi when its available from the campground I’m in. Otherwise I use my smartphone as a Mi-Fi router through Verizon Wireless. In Canada I was totally reliant of Wi-Fi given Verizon data rates are far too expensive. Here in Alaska, I have yet to find any Verizon service. Like Canada, we’ve relied on Campground Wi-Fi. In most campgrounds, Wi-Fi has been available.
To help with Wi-Fi reception I use a wireless extender when needed.
