  • What are the advantages?

Posted by Linda on July 22, 2021 at 10:57 am

Are there advantages to towing a trailer with a car inside? I have a non tow able Kia soul.

I am thinking down the road that if something happened to my husband or we become unable to hitch up our jeep together, that a small enclosed trailer might be the way to go. Any thoughts?

    A few advantages

car is always clean after towing

you can back up with out detaching

    tracks behind coach better

    disadvantages

issues with parking trailer in campground- site length

places like our CA resort forbid trailers

might need to pay for second site for trailer for night

tow-bars attachments inherently have “slop” causing towed car to wonder a bit side to side. Watch a Blue Ox equipped towed car sache’ side to side with removable tabs.

The car may be clean, but the trailer will need washing. I would rather wash a Soul than a trailer.

I can hook up a flat tow vehicle and be rolling in a few minutes compared to the time it takes to load and lash down a car inside a trailer.

The real disadvantage is there are very few sites that will accommodate a trailer at a pull through so you not only have to load and lash down the car you have to hook up to the trailer.

We flat tow a small car and once in a while put a race car in a trailer and pull that with the Prevost. Having to deal with pulling the ramp door down, getting the car in the trailer, struggling to get out of the car, tying the car down safely, closing the ramp door, and then dealing with pulling the trailer with the coach is MONUMENTAL compared to hooking up a flat tow.

A “small trailer” to put a car into just doesn’t exist. You don’t need a 30′ stacker to haul a car, but the minimum is 20′ long and a full 8.5′ wide (just as wide as the coach); unless you want to haul a SmartCar.

Like Dick, we do both and I would never use a trailer for anything but the race car! Geo

Even a tow dolly is a pain it’s a lot smaller then a trailer but still after the car if off of it you have to deal with it, tow bar fold it up on back of bus and your done, 4 extra tire monitors for car and or trailer. I connect my tow car by my self most of the time it’s easy.

A 24′ v-nose enclosed race car trailer can be used for a variety of things. We have 2 homes 1000 miles apart. We’ve hauled a combination of furniture, Polaris RZR, a smaller trailer, fertilizer, tools, lawn mowers, our Toyota(which we usually tow 4 down), between our homes.
