weight capacity H3-45 cargo bay
Can anyone point me to the weight capacity of an H3-45 cargo bay? We are building a home on a 1998 seated shell and hope to put all the tanks in the rear bay, 200 fresh, 100 black, 100 gray.
Assuming the 4 tanks never have more then 300 gal we are looking at 2400#
I would love to have a 50 gal lp tank in there as well but may not have the space.

Why are you going with separate grey and black? Why don’t you combine them. Then you don’t have to manage them. Many conversions have grey water bypass, works really slick.

I see so many advantages to having ONE holding tank. We also have the grey water bypass which is nice if water is allowed to be released.
Think about it, the black tank needs lots of water and combining grey water to it is a perfect marriage.
I just have not seen a down side to having the combined grey and black.

I went all over the Prevost technical manuals, such as owners manuals that list almost everything on a coach and while the volume of the bays is listed there is nothing I can find that lists weight capacity of the bays.
My only suggestion is to contact Prevost at the main offices and ask the question of the engineers. When I have had questions I have called and they are very good at providing the information I seek.
FWIW all of my 3 coaches have had my fresh water tank, holding tank and generator, plus the HW tank and water pump in the bay directly ahead of the drive axle, but my capacities were about 75% of those you list.
Theoretically the maximum content of the tanks will be the weight of fresh water only because I cannot imagine a situation where you will have full water and a full holding tank.

To me the problem with one tank for grey and black, even though you have a grey water bypass is you can’t always release the grey water.
Some times you might need to be a little discrete when dumping water on the ground such as in the dark.
I know you are asking about an H3 bay weight capacity but on my 40′ XL CC I had 8 8D batteries in the same bay as the holding tanks. Batteries on the curb side and the holding tanks took up the rest of the bay all the way to the street side.
8 8D X 168 lbs =1,344
169 gallons of fresh water at 8 lbs per gallon = 1352

Actually, Jon, I can imagine and it actually happened to me recently. Arrived at an interim location that had fresh water available and a dump site that was somewhat inconvenient. I was about 70% fresh and 30% waste at the time. Washed clothes etc for two days using grey bypass and refilled fresh tank for next stop. Left at 100% fresh and 30% waste.

Being almost as old and senile as Tom, I have made myself a promise that in my old age with the typical forgetfulness I will not take on water unless my holding tank is empty.
If I violate that personal rule, sure as hell I will forget to dump when I get the chance and with the potential amount of water that can enter the coach through the shower drain I would rather suffer with an empty water tank than suffer with an overfull holding tank.
Keep in mind this rule is despite the fact the overflow on my Liberty happens to be rose petals.

While there is no doubt your CC had that much weight in the bay, if I needed to have an accurate number I would ask Prevost. CC is one of the converters that paid little attention to weight limits and on some coaches they were well over allowable axle weights so verification from Prevost would be best. I happen to think your numbers would be safe however because the bays were not that wide and the load you describe was distributed.
The bays on a 45 foot coach would be wider so while the bay volume would be greater, the added width of the floor might actually be a reason to reduce the weight capacity.

With full loads and 8 8D’s I was 200 lbs over weight on the drive axel.
One of the reasons I went back with 6 8D’s.

I have exactly that in the bay. 200 Gal fresh, and 100 each for gray and black. Also, 2 6 gallon hot water heaters, water pumps and other small stuff in the last bay next to the OTR.
It’s a Marathon.

Hello, a few years ago I asked Prevost the how much weight I could put in the bay on my H3. The rep for conversion shells called me and said they do not reccomend putting more than 1,000 lbs in each bay. I was going to put my generator and water tanks in the same bay. After the conversation I moved the generator to a different bay. Water is about 8 pounds per gallon.
