  • Webasto woes

Posted by gary on February 19, 2015 at 11:29 am

Well it seems as though the webasto system in this coach knows when I need to use it and like a stubborn mule it refuses to work, The circulating pump is running I can hear it but it never fires up, just had it serviced in Sept. I turn it on and have let the circulating pump run for about 5 min enough time for it to fire off. I can get by with the cruise airs so no big problem, but a real PITA, Gary

Welcome to the club. My Aquahot does the same thing. Had it R&R’ed last fall and it takes a couple times to fire and smokes like a freight train. Have electric on unit also and down here in Texas don’t need the diesel but it’s a pisser. This is the 3’rd time service job done (2 different places) and when you need it something goes wrong.

Just seen the post about AquaMan. Just down in Houston. Might make another trip. Thanks.

One thing to be aware of Gary. If you have the newer style (without the aluminum control box on the top) Rudy cannot help you. He and I talked about these units in Kemah a month ago and he is not familiar with them.

Me either and if mine quits I will need help.

    Gary,

84 Sunday, send some of it to Pelican in Naples, we might see 74. I’ll talk to Ben and Rick tomorrow here at the show and let them know you need some help at Riverbend.

I had a similar problem when we got our bus. It would go through the lighting cycle and then shut down.

It turns out, the burner had lost prime due to lack of use. The built in fuel pump is just a tiny thing and won’t be able reprime the supply line by itself before the burner shuts down. Probably not uncommon if not used regularly. I had to temporarily hook up a small fuel pump to reprime the line (If you are daring you could just suck on the line). No problems since (3 years now).

There is a check valve (at least on a Marathon) just before the fuel line enters the Webasto. It should prevent loss of prime but they don’t always do their job if the unit does not get used regularly. Make sure it is not gunked up or sticky.

An easy thing to check before you throw money at it.

Mine did same thing Gary I do not have the control box either, I put new nozzle on and replaced fuel pump and all good now, fuel pump is easy to change out , I took filter off filled with fuel and away it went

Had to unplug power at webasto to re set it

Mine would throw a code on the dash the red light would blink for the webasto , if I was driving with the heater on, first thing in the morning when it was trying to heat the coolant for the motor or heat exchangers or the heat at the dash

    Gary..

I believe our coaches are identical… so if that is the case then I know Rudy Legett can’t help you as he looked at ours and was not familiar with it at all.

Like yours ours isn’t working either so I will be interested in what Rick and Ben have to say about it.

    Please post the outcome.

    Thanks so much.

Diane is correct. I am not familiar with the burner in the heat exchanger in her coach.

I am familiar with the 50,000 BTU Webasto heat exchanger that I have seen in a number of Prevost coaches. This is the burner used in all Aqua Hot diesel heaters. I carry parts for those burners but not the one in Diane’s coach.

    Rudy Legett….

As smart as you are with these systems I can’t help but wonder if you have any interest in learning about our Webasto systems??

We sure could use a good knowledgable guy in this area… there are a lot of us out there !!

    Cheers, Diane

Gary you ole Pirate, I really liked going to River Bend until you bought our favorite lot and kicked us off. Now I have to tough it out down here at Pelican being abused by some of the Jersey bunch throwing insults my way daily. I really don’t understand the middle finger deal and they call me a squatter.

I told Ben and Rick you needed Webasto help, I could see the dollar signs in their eyes.
