Webasto vs AquaHot
I am a prospective Prevost owner and interested in the differences between Webasto and AquaHot. I have done a lot of research and it seems that they are very similar, but it is unclear to me what differences there are between the two and what advantages one has over the other. Can anyone offer assistance. Thanks in advance.

The quick and easy answer is the Aqua-Hot has it’s own self contained coolant supply that gets heated with both DC, AC current and engine heat. The Aqua-Hot uses the Webasto diesel heating unit.
The Webasto uses the engine coolant and operates on DC power and engine heat.
You’ll likely get much more than this, but that’s the basic.

So the Aqua-Hot has four sources of heat? Engine heat, 12/24volt DC electric from the batteries, 120volt AC electric from the generator (maybe from the inverters), and from burning diesel fuel (from the main diesel tank on the bus) in the Webasto diesel boiler.
The Aqua-Hot system has a coolant supply that is independent of the Detroit Diesel engine coolant system, except for maybe a heat exchanger between the two independent systems.
The Webasto system is tied into the Detriot Diesel engine coolant system, they share the same coolant and has a 12/24 volt DC pump to circulate the coolant through the coach and the engine.

I have had both units , if you are dry camping I think the Aqua hot is better it can run off the fuel in bus tank it does not draw that much power when on battery and can heat the hot water it will not take much power , it will use more power if you use the heat inside the bus, the webasto pump runs all the time on the liberty and will use a lot of power if dry camping better to use gen in that case, and it uses fuel from bus but it uses more power because pump runs as long as the webasto is on , and aqua hot when bus is parked inside you can use the electric to heat the tank and water and keep water bay warm I like that also,, hope this helps!!!!!

until you have a leak on the Aqua hot then it is expensive to fix and takes out your water heater while it is being repaired. Otherwise pros and cons to both systems

Every Aquahot has a Webasto as its diesel fueled heat source. But instead of heating engine coolant the Aquahot is heating its own liquid which then circulates that heated liquid through the coach for heat, or uses it circulating through the heat exchanger to heat water or engine coolant to warm the engine.
Basically an Aquahot is a heat exchanger.
A Webasto is the furnace.

Since HVAC is left up to the conveter, does the converter, i.e., Liberty, Marathon, etc. always use the same HVAC system or do they put in whatever HVAC system the original owner wants?

I cannot speak about other converters, but if you buy a Liberty (newer multi slide models excluded) you are typically going to get 4 Cruiseairs plus over the road air (OTR) along with a Webasto.
The coach will likely have one or more electric toe space heaters and the Cruise airs will function as AC or heat down to about 35.
They stick with what has been proven quite reliable systems.
