Webasto Diesel Consumption

Has anyone measured how much diesel is consumed when running your webasto as a 12v heater or water heater?

This is only anecdotal but my gut tells me it is reasonably close to accurate.
When Liberty installed their first Webasto they were building 40 foot coaches and most if not all of them had 250 gallons of fuel capacity. To determine how well the system worked and what fuel consumption might be a coach was tested in the winter in the North Chicago area and it was reported the coach went a month before it had to be refueled.
At least that is what I recall.
There is no precise answer, just like there is no precise measurement for genset use. It all depends on temps, winds, size of coach, and if it is used for heating the entire system or if it is used just for heating the house, not the engine and not the HW tank.
I’d be surprised if a Webasto of the 80,000 BTU size used more than .5 GPH
I think an Aquahot uses a smaller Webasto so maybe someone could share information on the fuel usage for that version.

Tim, I’ve never tried to measure that but have the original manual that came with mine. It says for the DBW2020 (80,000 BTU) unit, 2.5 pints per hour. For the DBW2010 (40,000 BTU) unit, 1.3 pints per hour. If you have the aqua hot unit, it is probably the DBW2010.

John is right, I would also be surprised if it takes more than .5 gph. I have an 80,000 btu system and the nozzle is labled .6 gph but the burner doesnt run for a whole hour before it cuts off b/c the system is up to temp.
I have been around the coach for a couple hours before and the burner may only kick on twice in an hour but only run for 10 minutes or so. I imagine it all depends on how much hot water you are demanding, the outside temp, how you have the thermostats set for the heat exchangers to kick on, etc.
I have never left anywhere and looked at my fuel gauge thinking WOW, where did all my diesel go?

Mine is a 40,000 btu Webasto, so I think 1.3 pints per hour would be great! That math would make it less than 1/4gal. per hour.

You know, usually you come to Florida for the warm temps … but temps here this winter, so far, are making me run my Webasto more than I thought I should be running it 🙂

A gallon of #2 diesel fuel contains approximately 138,000 BTUs of energy. The 50,000 BTU Webasto in my Hydrohot uses a .4 gallon per hour nozzle. On a 30 degree, windy day my burner will run about 20 minutes per hour using about .132 gallon in that hour. That is .33 hour X .4 gallon/hour = .132 gallon
