  • We live at an airport!

Posted by Rod on January 4, 2014 at 10:15 pm

We arrived at the Orlando/Apopka airport this week. We will be working here for the next two months.

We are loving Florida and plan to return to this airport again next year. Everyone is so nice and very helpful too. They would like us to be here for six months next year. That seems a little long but you can’t beat the weather.

We are not in Kansas anymore Toto!

I spent a few hours at an airport or two and that is a great place to base a coach. Under the right circumstances you can park in a hangar which makles it even nicer because the coach is protected.

With 50 amp power water and access to sewer it doesn’t get much better.

I suspect we have members who store their coaches in hangars.

Planes, buses, hangers and airports, don’t get much better than that.

Thanks to TSA, the FAA and who knows else, you can only get away with this on a privately held airport that receives no federal funding. Too bad, I had to remove all “non aviation related items” from my hangar a few years back, now I have had to complete yet another “background check” (an annual event), have to take an annual drivers test to just drive to my hangar, have to wear an ID badge at all times, have to pass through two security gates, and also review and get quizzed on annual security updates. The good old days are mostly gone!

Yeah, I stored my coach for the last five years at the Edmonton municipal airport. They closed down the airport November 15th this year 2013. There was talk for the last four years about closing down the airport so i wasn’t concerned and thought we could make it through another winter…….. guess what…… eviction notice. Now coach is stored behing fire hall in a snow bank… – 46 today WC… not impressed. At least the coach is winterized and plugged in 35amp.

You don’t appreciate something until it is gone

Mr. Flyu2there … none of those actions taken by the TSA or the airport make me feel any safer; but I think you knew that.

    Thanks Roger!

No one believes the age of this coach. Guess someone took very good care of it along the way. 😉

Sure love that we can go anywhere and still be at home.
