Posted by Bill on April 21, 2013 at 10:40 pm

    Hey Guys,

In anticipation of the upcoming “big” trip my 7 yr old son and I waxed the entire bus today…. if was a real job but a ton of fun and looks great.

Just wondering if most wax the windows as well or use something else.

Bill Glad you had so much. Let me know when you want to have some more fun, you can do my coach next.

You opened a can of worms with your question, but thats the great part of this forum. Some do wax while

others use glass cleaner to vineager and water to….

Since the can is open, what did you use for wax?

I found a company in Florida called TRT. They make a whole line of cleaners and waxes. I bought and used

some of their line and did the coach over this winter. Very happy with the results. For the wheels I used Bling

a metal polish that they sell which out shined Mothers metal polish. When we were in the keys at the KOA

a local detailer used Bling. He said the 16oz of Bling cost $140. And o you can’t buy this youself. He offered to clean my wheels for $120. I guess he thought I was stupid or something. I looked on line and found the company

was over near Venice Florida and they sell to anyone! And the bottle of bling was $12.95. Rick

    Rick,

I used Meguiar’s 50 – Marine and RV “cleaner Wax” Did the entire bus with one 32 oz bottle with a bit left over… i was going to try and do the tops of the slides as well as the roof this week… haven’t been brave enough to climp all the way up the ladder to get on the roof….

I will try to find the Bling wheel stuff you mentioned… not happy with the way the 50 worked on the wheels but they needed a bit more help than the coach.

    Thanks

    Bill

Bill, are you sure the wheels need polishing. Converters started using the wheels with the special Alcoa protective finish around the time of your coach.

The finish does not have the mirror shine of the untreated wheels, but it doesn’t get the chalky appearance either.

Jon, I am not sure they could just be really dirty… in the holes there is black sludge like stuff and then overall they just don’t “shine” as much as I would expect… don’t have anything to compare them to…. so perhaps what I am seeing is normal….

    Bill,

Alcoa has a fancy name for the finish on wheels, but it is likely a polyester clear coat. If that is the type finish you do not want to use anything that will damage it so before getting aggressive make sure they have that protective finish which should clean up nicely with car wash soap and water.

If the wheels are uncoated they will have a milky or chalky appearance because aluminum oxidizes. When polished uncoated wheels are going to have a much higher luster than the coated wheels but will require frequent maintenance.
