  • Water tank drain

Posted by Calvin on April 12, 2020 at 4:39 pm

My ’94 Liberty XL has been sitting for a while and looks like a few weeks longer before I can get her on the road. How do I drain the fresh water tank other than turn on all the faucets until empty? Thanks for any help nd advice

Our 99 XLV Elegant Lady (24 volt coach/house side) has a pneumatic dump valve on the passenger side on the back side of the fresh water tank. Yours might be a manual valve. I have to have air in the auxiliary system so I run the auxiliary compressor for a few minutes, push a button above the fresh water tank on passenger side, valve opens and fresh water runs out all over!!!!!

Be careful you don’t open the curbside holding tank valve by mistake.

I cannot remember the details of the different vintages I had, but all have or had a valve used for purposes of draining the water tank, HW tank, and the system for freeze prevention

I have a 94 liberty xl classic as well. The fresh water tank drain is in the water bay (passenger side bay 4) right by the Groco senior pump. There are two 1/4 turn ball valves. Left one is for hot water tank. Right one is for fresh water tank.

    How do you know this?

Being a pilot and a race car driver I learned a long time ago to study systems (like plumbing) before jumping in and turning valves, flipping switches, pushing buttons, and pulling levers. Doing that kinda stuff can create unexpected, very unwelcome, catastrophic events.

What I really want to know is how someone can possibly confuse the holding tank valves with fresh water valves. Surely that has to be meant as humor.

Not really, Jon. I’ve never done it, but on my elegant coach (touch screens), between the fine print (old fart) and fat fingers, I can see how it could happen.

I guess I better look at my screens. I thought there was a screen to dump holding tanks, but I was unaware the fresh water could be dumped as well.

I thought I only had four options: Port Dump, Starboard Dump, Macerator, Grey water By-Pass.

I’m not one to dump from a screen. I want to be right at the hose when I dump in case I have to close the valve quickly.

But I do see the benefit of dumping while driving when some moron driver just will not stop tailgating. Gotta try that some time.
