  • Water pumps not switching on after work…

Posted by Charlie on December 24, 2016 at 11:44 pm

Many may recall that my ’98 Marathon had a big fuel leak issue around Thanksgiving. Prevost diagnosed but would not fix the problem because the water systems needed to be removed to access the cause of the leak (improperly installed fuel tank sender). Prevost recommended an RV shop to do the work in NJ so I took my bus there.

I picked up the bus yesterday under some time pressure (mine) and the RV place could not get water pump 1 or 2 to turn on via either of the two switches for them (one at main panel in bedroom, one on roadside water bay). The switches light up, they seem to send power to a panel of wires in another bay, but the pumps don’t turn on. The shop manager was convinced there was a fuse blown somewhere preventing power to get to the pumps, but couldn’t located them.

To get me on the road, they patched in new power from an open terminal, put fuses on it, and a switch. I hate the jerry-rigged solution, but I was the one trying to get the coach back for next week.

My question, does anyone have a suggestion as to why the water pump switches would work but the pumps would no receive power? Is there a fuse or relay somewhere I may not know of?

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas.

    Charlie,

Did the pumps work before you had the work done? Not sure of your vintage and if you have the node relays and Techlink. On my 02, the first place I would look would be the node relay box that controls the button/pumps and look for a blown fuse inside the box.

A call to Leon would get you headed in the right direction.

The TechLink node for the water pump on my coach is underneath the kitchen counter behind the back wall panel. May not be located the same on your coach if you have TechLink system.

Tom, yes, the water pumps worked, dare I say perfectly, before being dropped off in the shop and now they do not after being “serviced”*. Not to distract from this thread, but other things now don’t work* when they did before, so I am actually quite annoyed with the shop right now. I will hold off on naming names yet, however, as I give credit to the shop owner for exchanging notes with me on Christmas and already this morning he has emailed and called. He’s trying to make right, which is something…

I am new to the names, who is Leon? I will look for his contact info on the forum.

*same with my Webasto 12V heat, but that is another saga

    Charlie,

Like Geo said, Leon is the go to guy in Oregon at the factory for service. I’ve contacted him multiple times and he has access to all the electrical, plumbing & HVAC diagrams so he’s able to pin took t your problem fairly easily. If Marathon put it in, he knows how to access or fix it. First thing he’ll ask for is your coach number so he can pull the schematics.

The factory may be closed this week, but will certainly be open after next Monday.
