Water Is A Big Bus Barn Improvement
We made another improvemen on the bus barn property. The water company put in the water tap in late summer and we ran the water line the first week of November. It was a huge project for me and I am very glad to have it behind me.
We dug nearly 400 feet of ditch between 36-42 inches deep. We installed a Tee and shut off valve about 100′ feet from the road where we hope to build Odie’s house eventually. We put another Tee about 100′ feet further and then a frost free hydrant about 55′ from that near the fire pit and where I hope to have an outside bus spot some day.
Then is was a little over 100′ to the valve by the barn and then onto another hydrant outside the barn and one inside the barn. The water company required all brass compression fittings, curb stops and dual check valves and an acces pit at every valve. It was quite a bit of over kill but I should not have to worry about anything coming apart.
We put 3-4 inches of sand over the full length of the line and over 1 foot of sand where the line is under the drive. Then we filled the rest of that section with gravel.
I rented a track hoe and I had a friend and some family that helped me with the digging and such That was a huge help. We started digging midmorning on a Monday and the inspector came and turned the water on first thing Wednesday morning. We spent the rest of the week filling it in and cleaning up.
I got the water in just in time to leave for another month. Here are a few pictures.
