Water heaters no longer heated by Detroit/Webasto
Hello all
As title says, water heaters no longer heated by engine (or Webasto). Also the BLOCK HEAT option using Webasto not heating engine either. If attempting to use Webasto for anything besides interior heat exchangers (those work fine), unit runs briefly gets extremely hot and cycles off (circulation pump stays running).
Can’t get a definitive answer if any of the three visible soleniod valves are involved in water heater loop or not. It has always done it’s thing without any action on my part. Bypassed one valve with two 3/4″ tees, did nothing besides make a coolant mess at current campsite.
Is there a valve somewhere that would block coolant flow to all but interior heat exchangers (when they’re enabled)?
Stumped on this one.

Did it ever heat those items previously? There are gates valves in the engine compartment of our coach, but someone would have had to shut them down to make them stop that flow.

Yes since we’ve owned it (almost 6 years) a trip of any distance left us with 195 degree hot water. Without us doing/enabling anything. This is a first.
I’m familiar with the two gate valves on the Prevost OTR heating system. Those are and have been open.
We are a long ways from home in the Keys, somewhat limited on what I can do simply due to coolant mess. I have bypassed two solenoid valves without success, next step is ball valves on each line and go from there.
Water does heat when running any one of 3 interior Webasto exchangers, but not otherwise.

any check valves on supply or return lines .?If so tap with hammers to free.
sounds like electric. Valve not working.check power at valve.How many pumps on system?

When the engine is up to full operating temp for a while, feel around on the plumbing in the engine bay. I’m guessing that you’ll find a hot pipe and a cold pipe on either side of something. Do you know the Webasto pump is running?

I can’t find any check valves per se. Solenoid valves yes, but I’ve bypassed those without success so far. One pump on Webasto for that system.

Yes Webasto pump is running. Works fine if heating interior exchangers – also heats water heaters but only in that scenario.

Have you done anything with the coolant that could have introduce air into the system? Each circuit in the system can act differently depending on how they are plumbed. For instance, the coach heat exchangers may be above the boiler with no fall on the return. In such a case air would not cause a circulation problem. In the case of the water heater, the fluid may need to go down on the supply side which could be problematic if there is air. Remember, it is very difficult to get air to go down in water.
