  • Watchdog blows fuse

Posted by Mark on October 16, 2013 at 1:54 pm

Each time I started my generator from the remote panel it would blow the 3/8 amp Pico fuse (F5) in my Watchdog. Liberty did a great job and quickly figured out it was a weak generator battery even thought I never had any signs of the 5 year old battery needing replacement.

Great heads up. Another good piece of information to keep in mind. Thank’s Mark.

Mark I suppose you could use the fuse blowing as a way of knowing when the generator start battery needs replacement. It seems like the .375A fuse is a bit too low of current for the application. It likely is blowing because of the increased current that goes with a lower voltage. I’d ask the converter if they have looked at the circuitry and whether a .5A fuse wouldn’t make more sense.

I too am glad the fuse information was posted. Good to keep in mind. Wouldn’t count on the fuse blowing as a reliable indicator of a sub-par battery, however. My gen battery went south as well, wouldn’t turn over but a few revs at first, then the solenoid would click but not engage, then nothing. Changed the battery out, starts again, no fuse involved.
