  • wacky speedometer

Posted by Rick & Denise on May 28, 2012 at 5:12 pm

This weekend we went to Vermont to camp with the grandchildren.

On the way there and back the speedometer acted up.1. When in 5th gear only it would only read 5mph. 2 If I used the tranny brake, again only 5mph. 3 If the prefomance mode is on, 4th and 6th gear, speedometer reads correct.

As a side note, the meter was replaced 17000 miles ago by the previous owner for reasons unknown.

    Any ideas? Rick

    Hi Rick,

Wow, you don’t really give us much to go on here. You say the speedo was showing 5 mph…..were you going 5 mph? If so, your problem is solved!

You also say the speedo was replaced 17,000 miles ago. I presume the original one was with a mechanical odometer biuilt in. Was the replacement the same? I ask because those older speedo/tach with mechanical odo were not very reliable and most coaches from the early nineties have had to replace them.

I installed one of these, and got the matching tach so the printing font matched up nicely.

I also adjusted the new odometer to read the correct coach totla mileage. Hope this helps.
