Wabasto test
ok guys. Still a newbie here, so can you tell me if I can test fire my Wabasto while attached to shore power or running the generator? On our Sig we had a separate switch marked Aquahot diesel that would start the unit on demand when needed.
basically I want to test the system. But do I have to be disconnected from shore power and have no gen power either. Just battery power?

How long since you last ran your Webasto burner? The diesel on the nozzle begins to congeal when the burner is not run. If left off long enough (8 to 12 weeks or more), the spray pattern will be interfered with resulting in smelly or smokey exhaust. Even longer will completely plug the nozzle up resulting in no firing and the burner faulting, light in switch going out with the switch still in the on position.
To prevent this from happening, one should run the burner through one heating cycle once per month or more. So, please “Test” your burner that often or more.
Gen or shorepower only contribute to the Webasto by keeping the needed battery power for running the burner available via the chargers those power sources energize. As long as you have battery power and more than 1/4 tank of diesel, you are good to go.

thanks Rudy. I had the unit serviced by Marathon before purchase. I agree with everything you said and routinely do so on our Signature. What I really need to know is on this Marathon XL how do I FIRE UP the Wabasto? I’m sure there is a switch I just don’t want to flip the wrong one.

Well Jackie, your wellcome.
The on/off switch is in the coach somewhere probably hiding in plain sight. I have no idea where it is but someone here certainly does. Once turned on, you may need to get the burner to run by demanding heat via running hot water or interior heat via the thermostats for that purpose.

When I fire mine up in the summer, I use the “12 volt” water heater switch on the bedroom panel.
It’ll fire the unit without having to run the furnace. -
Thanks Mike. Just did what you said and Wabasto is running to heat water for shower. Different systems work differently as to startup. all help appreciated.

Mines a little older than yours, but probably almost the same. At your DC panel you have a button for 12v heat. That’s the Webasto and will be controlled by the SMX thermostats for heat. There’s also a button labeled 12v water heater and that’s also using the Webasto. There’s lots more, but that is the basics.
