I think the change in cooling system design when the Volvo engines went in had more to do with the lower RPM that the engine runs at to get it’s best economy. Instead of running at say 1700 to do 70 MPH, it likely now does it at about 1400 to 1500 max. That cuts down how fast the fan runs, hence the changes to the cooling system design. I don’t remember who told me..maybe Bill Jensen, or someone at Nashville.

We routinely ran at 1400 at 65 MPH with out Cats. That was about the sweet spot in the fuel curve….

Mark if your looking for a toad you need to look at a Jeep Grand Cherikee Sumit. I just bought one and love it. After having 5 tahoe’s it nice to drag something new. The diisconnect is also a great feature.

Detroit made a 575HP non EGR 14 liter around 2000. There didn’t make a lot of them, you rarely see one.

I’ve
never found a non VNT after market turbo that is sized correctly for the the
14 liter Detroit other than the factory Garrett from 2000 14 liter or the one Interstate Mcbee offers that is a
very good copy of the factory Garrett turbo. The professional tuners (I
don’t mean PDI, Pittsburg Power or such) use the OEM turbo or the
Interstate Mcbee copy from the 2000 575 HP 14 liter.

One of
my friends that works on trucks every day says he’s never meet anyone
that was satisfied with his Mac or Volvo engine. He mostly works on
trucks that are out of warranty so maybe the new stuff is better.

It would be great to hear from owners who have the Volvo engine in their Prevost. I think they were installed about 2012. So, that would be at least 200-300 coaches sold during that time including the entertainer units?

I have accumulated 35k on my 2013 X3-45 and I like the Volvo over the 2012 H3-45 with the Detriot series 60.

much quieter and less engine vibration, fuel mileage about 6.3mpg @ 65 mph towing a 2014 GMC acadia.

Most of the engine issues have been emission sensor related ( egr, dpf, and def ) and from what I hear from the repair facilities almost all post 2010 engine manufactures are having these problems as well. Most of the problems have been determined to be cold weather and altitude related.
