  • Villa Sofa

Posted by Liam on October 22, 2013 at 5:51 am

The original sofa in our bus has seen better days and covered with fabric that looks like a Dolly Parton dress! Interested in a real sofa bed with the spring/air type mattress (max comfort) as we often take another couple with us. Any experience with Villa? I am in a woodworking class in LA next week about a mile from the Villa factory and was going to take a look.

We had great experience with Villa. They helped me out with a new power base for our passenger seat when we had a problem and encouraged us to have our sofa reupholstered instead of replacement.

Villa kept a record of our original Liberty Coach build specifications, so they could duplicate anything that they provided if necessary.

However, they were quite insistent that our sofa did not require replacement and urged us to find a local shop to reupholster our sofa. We ended up using the same guy that Liberty Coach uses here in Florida.

It really wasn’t a big deal to take the sofa off its base and remove it. Once off the base, it fit through the bus door, but it is definitely a two-person job.

    Good luck ……

We installed a Villa J couch as part of a remodel Panterra did for us and the work was Excellent. We were replacing a desk table and recliner and they made the piece to the exact size needed. I dislike soft coushions on anything and they adjusted the firmness for us also. Panterra sent the fabric to the them so it would match up exactly with the rest of what was being done and the end result was beyond expectations.

Our CC came with a Villa. After 13 years it was still servicable. We replaced it only due to its dated look. I’d say they make a very good product.

If my memory is correct, it was Fine Sewing in a Port St. Lucie, FL.

I’ll check my records and if I find the owners card I’ll post the contact info.

Liam, you might want to also check shop4seats.com while in the LA area. Their factory is in Orange County as is Villa. I have a Villa sofa that was original to my bus and it is great, but when I added another sofa and dinette seating this year I got them from shop4seats primarily because they had better color and fabric combinations, more styles to choose from which I like better, and I could match the sofa to the dinette. (Villa may offer all of this, but its website is not good about this.) The price was very good and the quality is great. Of course they have only been in for a couple of months, but they are well made and I think will hold up well. We got a jackknife sofa so I don’t know how their pull out sleeper models compare. You are smart to go in person if you are planning to get fabric rather than leather our ultraleather, so you can really see what you are getting. When I had my ’90 CC XL40 we had opposing fabric covered sofas, and I think fabric was the best choice to complement the gorgeous black walnut panelling and cabinents in the bus, but we had a mainly solid color.

Villa on the left, shop4seats dinette and sofa on the right.

You are in luck. I found the business card for the reupholsterer.

Diego Cruz is the owner of The Boat Works by Fine Sewing Services. They have been a resource for Liberty Coach and they do fantastic work.

Located on US 1 in Port St. Lucie, FL they can be contacted at 772-336-1162 or 772-240-2854 cell.

Thanks everyone for the info. The “thin” website had me a litle woried but I hear them mentioned a lot. I really like the idea of semi-custom. I am 6’4″ and like firm cushions as well. That was what attracted me – the idea that I could specify seat depth and back height. I will give a full report after I get back.
