  • Video: What You Need To Know About Liberty Coach

Posted by Andy on August 7, 2018 at 5:51 pm

While on my Escape the Humidity Road Trip, I found myself crossing paths with Frank Konigseder, Jr., the Co-Owner and Vice President of Liberty Coach and he agreed to go on camera with me in a no-holes-barred interview.

Allow me to point out that when I conduct industry interviews, there are no pre-conditions and no related subject is considered out of bounds. There’s no script or notes and the conversation simply goes where it goes. I attempt to ask questions based on a point of view of a typical consumer and strive to gain answers that are easily understandable by those who may be considered newbies who may be contemplating the decision whether or not to purchase the product or service discussed during the interview. I’ll add that no payment or consideration was provided for this meeting or any of my interviews or product reviews.

This interview with Konigseder lasted approximately 45 minutes and during the production process I thought it best to break it into three segments. Questions, comments and opinions are welcomed. Feel free to post your responses here.

    Part 1

    • Liberty’s 50 year history as a motorhome converter.
    • What separates Liberty Coach from other Prevost motorhome converters.
    • How Liberty’s interior designs have evolved over the decades.
    • Exterior paint and technique.

    • Is Liberty a custom- or spec-coach builder?
    • How Lithium Ion batteries deliver more comfort and convenience over AGM or lead acid batteries.

    Part 3

    • How will emerging automotive technologies affect the motorhome industry?
    • The future of electric and autonomous motorhomes?
    • How far are we away from a fully electric motorhome?
    • Will enhanced safety features such as lane keeping technology trickle down to the motorhome industry?
    • When will we see an autonomous motorhome?

    Fascinating stuff Andy,

First of all I had no idea Liberty is the first converter going all the way back to the 60’s with Greyhound? That was quite a story in itself and then their eventual move into the Prevost bus was really good stuff!

Something else that shocked me and not just because the conversation was about batteries. To hear that Lithium Ion batteries can run a Liberty bus with everything running, including two air conditioners for 8 hours, is amazing to me. And to find the batteries will last up to 28 years was a real shocker! Frank’s comments on batteries one day driving a coach was really something. I was also most impressed the systems in place to keep the batteries from running all the way down. Very well thought out!

Then driving a coach with an auto guidance systems, “look mom no hands”, was of equal interest. I called Frank to discuss things further but the moment I mentioned your name he hung up… I’m sure it was a connection issue!

I must compliment you though Andy, something that’s never a good idea! You did a great job of keeping the conversation moving forward. No easy thing keeping a technical conversation going forward while maintaining interest.

Thanks for posting sir. And thanks Frank (Frank Konigseder VP of Liberty) for the time you gave us. Not many can sit that long with Andy, but I did notice the ambulance standing by!

Don’t be so sure about that Harry. I give Frank a lot of credit for staying in the hot seat for a full 45 minutes!

Thanks for the kind words Harry. I hope to get some time with others who can shed some light on various coach topics.

Yes, he’s a patient guy and thankfully, nobody got hurt!
