Vent Cover
Anybody ever put a vent cover your fantastic fan, which would allow you to travel down the road and still leave the fan cover open?

Tim, I have had three different motohomes and all of them including this prevost has a vent cover that I can leave open when driving.. thought they were all made that way..are you sure you cannot?

I like these vent covers as I don’t have to worry about rain. Some vents will close automatically when it rains but many times I still want the vent open, even with rain.
These are easy to remove for cleaning but they really don’t trap much stuff. They go over my Fan-Tastic Fan covers, and install easily – assuming you go up on your roof.

Just be sure you get one that’s tall enough to handle the full open position of your lid. The older fans had a “dome stop” that allowed you to stop the vent cover before it opened all the way to keep from hitting the cover and you could also turn off the fan. The later models no longer have that option. You have to be able to turn off the fan while your driving with the lid open. With my current vintage fan, I can’t do any of those things.
You can always crack a bedroom window, open the toll window and let the breeze flow. The shiny stainless boy’s don’t have that H option.:)
Just the mention of fresh air has Jon freaking out, his windows are never to be opened, ever….

My Fan-Tastic Fans (2006 era) stop raising their covers based on load. If they encounter a significant resistance or the resistance reached at the extent of their travel, the vent cover stops. This means that they will open to any angle and should the MaxxAir cover slightly limits the opening, not problem.

I can’t stop my lid from opening all the way either.
I do go on the roof, but try to minimixe walking on it.

I got our covers either at Camping World or Amazon. I’ve had them 5 years so can’t remember, however, they are not rare. They do come in black and white and are high quality – at least higher quality than the cheap, thin ones that deteriorate in the sun.

Our first coach had three ceiling fans, two of which were covered, and a “sun roof” which could open.
The inside opening was covered on the two fans that had covers with a piece of vinyl that was held in place by Velcro. That inside cover had to be removed to draw in air and on the two that had that inside cover there was no lid on the outside that opened and closed, but a full cover that blocked rain even when traveling. We used all the fans a lot. If we wanted to draw fresh air into the living room we would remove the inside cover from that fan, and then turn on the other two fans, one in the bedroom and one in the bath. That would draw the fresh air into the living room. We would reverse that if we wanted fresh air in the bedroom.
We could do that moving or parked. When parked we could open the slider windows which preceded the awning type windows common today. We did not open windows when driving because the amount of dust and dirt drawn in from windows was a lot. There was minimal dust and dirt drawn in from the roof so we learned that was the best way to ventilate the coach.
Our coaches today have only vent fans in the bath and shower. Neither can be opened with the fan off. So the only fresh air to be drawn in will have to come from an open window. For us it just is not worth the hassle of dealing with the dust so thanks to our Cruiseairs we use them to keep us comfortable when parked or the OTR when driving.
If you don’t think there is a lot of dust and dirt in the air look at how much ends up on the sides of the coach whether driving or not. Driving is the worst, and anyone that tows knows there is enough dirt and rubber dust to make the toad smell like burning rubber the first time it is started after a day of towing. That black dust would get everywhere in all coaches except our first one.

Fantastic Fans states you can drive with the fan either closed or open all the way with no issues. They tell you not to drive with it partially open.

When you have the fan lid open you might experience some shaking of the clear plastic lid. This happens when passing or being passed by large trucks or other RV’s. Mary Ellen said the plastic lid was shaking all over while we were being passsed by a 18 wheeler at 65 MPH.
I’ve seen a few A/C shell covers and the ceiling fan housing covers laying on the road side.
Having that clear cap leave the bus or break while on a trip is not what I want to fool with. We close ours when driving, just one less thing to worry about.
If we need air inside the bus as drawing really cool air forward I open the toll window.

Stinky little 7 year old Granddaughter opened mine running down I 10 and broke the darn thing where the metal arm attaches to plastic dome from shaking back and forth. Easy fix though.

I have a fantastic fan also and we were able to get a fantastic fan cover from camping world made by fantastic fan that lets it open all the way .
