my AMX is pretty prehistoric and the controller weighs as much as a watermelon and is as about as easy to handle( I think it gave me carpal tunnel ) anyway , I was wondering if you could tell me what system you replaced your AMX with and the ballpark cost?

David, We went through that coach at Branson in October. Rex had just picked it up and it hadn’t been to Panterra yet. Other than some marks on the front bumper cover it appeared to be a well taken care of coach. We were interested, but ultimately passed because of the lack of drawers in the galley and the second lav being in the bedroom instead of the toilet room.

Ah George, Corey, are you going to keep a low profile about your upgrade or tell us all about it?
C’mon, we love to hear about moving on up…..

It’s really kind of a lateral move, a ’99 shell H-Vantare single slide. 1 owner coach with 365 steer & tag upgrade, coleman-mach retro-fit for the R-Vac and flawless paint and interior. Needs very little…..Ben & Rick have been over it with a fine tooth comb. Now we get to push buttons (slide, Girard and air pocket doors etc.) too ! Get it between X-mas and New Years. Think we have the XL sold ? Merry Christmas to all. Geo

Geo,
Congrats on your next coach. Will make a nice Christmas present.
Will your next set of pooches be named “Jack and Karen”?? 🙂

Dave,
Thanks for taking the time to look up your VIN number. I’m amazed that this is your previous coach. I must say, you have very good taste, or at least my wife thinks so! I’m happy to hear that the coach had proper care during the early years of it’s life. Do you remember any significant repairs it may have required?
Cory and George,
Congrats on the new coach, sounds like you found a very sweet ’99 Vantare; looking forward to seeing pics. Thanks for relaying your information on this coach. Knowing that a Prevost owner toured it and liked what they saw makes booking a trip to Holland Michigan (where the coach is currently located) that much easier.
Jon,
Thanks for the info on the transmission retarder; it helps a great deal. Also, I had a nice chat with Ben Cummings regarding Vantare’s inverter operation and I feel quite comfortable with it. Very interesting.
While I’d love to have bunks, I also know that motorhome’s equipped with them are few and far between. I believe I’ve seen some Vantare’s with them so there must be a standard floorplan that accepts bunks. Anyone know what that floor plan is called? My wife and I are struggling with how to easily and conviently configure sleeping accommodations for our 3 children. Bunks are number one, but two sofa beds may suffice, and recently I saw a Vantare configured with a trundle bed under one of those sofa beds – this would be a close second to bunks.
BTW, does anyone know when Prevost went to the new H3 front clip. Was it in chassis year ’03 or ’04? This coach at Panterra confuses me. It’s an ’03 chassis but it has the new clip.

Thanks Lee,
I prefer a motorhome. And, there are a couple on busforsale. I’ll keep watching. Thanks.

David,
I think the best way for you to find a motorhome with bunks would be to contact Wade Staley of Staley Coach. Their information can be found in our list of advertisers.
I strongly recommend him as a starting point because he has such an extensive knowledge of what is out there you are likely to find exactly what you need. He is positioned to know about motorhomes with bunks because a great deal of his sales involve coaches with bunks.
As an alternative however I know of at least two motorhomes whose buyers modified their coaches to replace closets with bunks, but in such a way to allow complete or even partial restoration of the closets as their needs changed. From a buyer’s perspective all you have to do is find a coach with a floor plan that enables you to add the bunks. As an alternative, there have been several over the years that used a bay as a bedroom with entry via a hatch in the floor. One rather elaborate one had full heat and air, TV, beds and was in essence a playroom. We were in a coach whose owner converted a bay into a “house” for the owner’s tiger.

There were no problems to speak of with the coach during my ownership other than normal bug removal of a new conversion. The only reason I traded was my mistaken belief that I should trade when a coach hit’s 60,000 miles. At that time I was trading every two years for this reason. I finally learned that miles mean nothing on a prevost conversion as long as it has been properly maintained. This cost me a lot of $$ to learn.
Personally I would much prefer a higher milage coach that has had regular preventive mainenance than one that has been rarely used. My experience is the higher milage coach will have less problems.
