Updating
I have caught some discussions on “last read” etc available, but, mine has been sporadic at best. If I access PC via my laptop, read all then shut down, later when I am on my desktop at home, it is as if I were never on via the laptop, showing NEW for different messages I have alread read. Not complaining, just thought I might bring it up. Is there a way to set up so if an article is read, then it is read by all my access equipment or do I just have to remind myself that I had already read it on one of my other devices. Almost scared to try to access via my new Smart Phone. Reason they call them that is if you are not Computer Smart, you got no reason to have one!

I give this one a try. When you log on to various websites using logon credentials, their are two ways the website know who you are. One, and the most common, is to use “cookies”. This is a small file that has all your information, which can contain information concerning your last logon. In this case it would be a code that indicates the latest posts. This file is written to your computer hard drive
The second, is for the website to remember who you are. This can be more complicated and require additional programming to manage the data from all the info files. This information is written to the particular webste you are visiting.
If prevostcommunity.com uses the “cookie type”, your information is recorded on your computer. So when you use a different computer, the data will be from the last time you logged on with that particular computer, which might not represent your most recent logon.
This is a very simple explaniation of a very complicated process. Hope this helps.

Hector is correct, but I’ll let Joe answer this. We have had many “cookie” discussions and the associated security risks, so I’ll defer to Joe.

Joe is the web site developer who has been working not only to create the site, but work through the details to make the site user friendly and free of glitches.
We have found out our vision of the web site was easy to define. What is not so easy is to define how we needed to handle the gazillions of details that go into creating a web site. All of our members therefore are functioning as test pilots.

yes, he lived on the S Side….just off I94 & I80…..he recently called me about a radiator and I cannot re connect with him.
