I just had Liberty update all of my AV. Now we have, controlled through the Crestron on iPads, new LED TVs with in motion standard definition satellite, stationary HD satellite, Roku, Apple TV, two bluray players and Sirius XM throughout and outside. We also added cameras so that we can see around the bus without getting out of bed. The new inverters are also controlled through the Crestron so that when we are at a park with lower quality electric we can lower the settings to avoid popping the breaker.
All of this is made possible by an internal wifi network that uses a Verizon card with roof antennae for remote access and updates, as well as streaming data for all of these devices plus those we carry with us. The great thing about this is that with the $80/ month we pay Liberty through their corporate account we have no overages to worry about. I know this isn’t cheap, but it is a very workable solution that fits the needs of a young family with large data requirements.

I think we toured your bus at the OKC rally… Is that right? We had the Marathon one row up? So with the system you described you get unlimited data and Liberty picks up the overage after $80 a month….nice deal if your in the coach a bunch….

That was us, Bill. It is a nice deal when we are in that things just work and we don’t have to worry about the data. We also have a 30GB plan for our phones, but we aren’t pushing that as much now. With 10GB we were going over almost every month.
Because of your coach we also got them to install an electric slide in the front bay. We don’t have as much room as an H, but its a far sight better than the split slides that were in there before.

Is the data deal part of a package or can you purchase just the router and service as a seperate item and if so, any idea of the cost just for the Wi-Fi?
Thats a great concept Liberty has offered and like you said, you can’t beat 800 a month unlimited data.

Nice deal indeed… when we were traveling regularly… I was pulling 50 gig a month with work stuff going back and forth….$80 a month would be a nice deal…

I’m not sure, Tom, because we had evertything done at once. I just know that remote access and such is part of the updates and this system is how they do it. Essentially they updated (almost) everything to how they do it on the new buses, so I have a 2014 feel without the same pricetag or having to use DEF!

If this $80 unlimited data deal is for real, then this would be a must have for almost every Liberty customer. $80 does not buy much these days when it comes to data.
But, somehow, I think there is more to this (or, for that matter, less). Remember Millenicom? Right before Verizon pulled the rug from under them, they sold 20GB for $89.99 per month. At the time, that was a great deal not available from anyone else.
Millenicom had hundreds of customers. Presumedly, very likely, in excess of a thousand.
Does Liberty have hundreds of customers who signed-up for this data service? Very doubtful.
Thus, I do question the accuracy of this data service deal. The other very imporant question to ask is, who is the service provider? It is not Liberty. They buy service from one of the cellular companies. But who is it?
Also, is this 3G /4G /LTE service? Big difference. What is the download and upload speed? If the service performs lousy, the unlimited is useless.
In any event, the Tampa show is coming up in a few weeks and you and I will be able to ask them about this.

FMCA has a deal worked out with Sprint and Verizon for unlimited WiFi. Basically the monthly plan is 50 dollars a month for unlimited plan. I went with Verizon. After 25 gig they can slow you down if the network gets bogged down but that has never happened to me yet. Go to FMCA website to see all your options. You must be an FMCA member to take advantage of this plan.

Just FYI, I recently switched to AT&T from Verizon and since I was a Direct TV customer I got the Mobile Internet (a better device than the Jetpack) with 100 gig for 600 per month.
They’re all a big PIA, but they have us by the short hair.

Data, that is.
Because of our unique situation, we typically pull down anywhere from 150 to 300 gigabytes of data every month. That includes a few HD movies from Prime/Netflix. HD movies easily eat 5-10 gig of data per movie. We did away with DISH because I did not like having to watch a limited selection of movies on their time schedule.
You can not get that from the typical hotspot deals that are being offered by the carriers or the likes of the FMCA. As long as you travel metropolitan areas, any carrier is good. Some better.
But if you leave those areas, the differences will show-up very soon.
For instance, we ae in Lajitas, Texas right now (Big Bend National Park).
None of the major carriers (Verizon/AT&T/T-Mobile/Sprint) do have towers in this area. T-Mobile and Sprint have no service here. Verizon and AT&T provide roaming services through local carriers (usually at additional cost charged to you automatically). I see 3G with 1-3 bars at best. Download speed is about 1.5 gigabits.
By comparison, my arrangement with Big Bend fiberoptics provides between 60 and 90 gigabits. A world of difference.
Anyways, going back to the subject line, look around on eBay. Unlimited SIM’s are still available and can be purchased (rented) for between $50-$75 per month. Some sellers offer hardware/modems, too.
I would strongly recommend that you get the ”COVERAGE?” App from the Apple Store. It is a great and free app which allows you to check each carrier and drill right down to your location.
