Here’s a few pictures of the new glass dash. Unless you turn on the display, it looks exactly like what was there before. The switches that used to control the PC have been replaced with new selection switches and a selector knob. This new switch pad sits in the same exact postion as the old switches. There is a bit of triming behind the display to get it to fit. Unlike the PC version, this one has all the intelligence mounted to the display.

The pictures show 3 drive screens, one shows the new switch pad. The other shows a scan screen. The scan screen allows you to select what is scaned in the upper right of the screen. Anyone interested should pull down the operators manual so you can get more insight into its capabilities.

This is the scan screen. The upper right parameter can scan many or be set to just one.

Very nice Gil, now you have piece of mind and no worry about Dos 3.1 taking a crap or worse, the electronics.

I think the new dash looks great and I can see how it can be set up so it wakes even a comatose driver to a potential problem. But having had 3 electronic dashes on our M-B go black (no speedo, tach, fuel gauge, no-nuthin) and influenced by 35 years of solo hard IFR flying my perfect dash has round dials, each independent of one another, so there is no single failure point. If my over 50 years of driving can be used as a benchmark I find it revealing that the score so far is the failure of 2 Prevost speedometers (electronic I might add) and 3 complete M-B dash displays.

Just because I am not embracing the latest and greatest doesn’t mean I am wrong.

My flip phone has a rotary dial, no camera, no voice mail,, no text, but I don’t have to trade up every year or two. (Drives Verizon nuts)

My bet is that all of your Prevost guages are run from a single communications bus. If the communication bus dies so does all the guages. My perspective comes from the marine industry where more and more systems are collapsed on a common communications bus with multi function displays.

You are absolutely correct though. If the display dies all monitoring is gone. In that case I break out the PC and hook it to the communications connector next to the driver’s seat and I have all engine and transmission data restored. That’s not everything, but it is most of the data.

I haven’t gotten into what makes the dash in my current coach work, but on my 97 every round gauge was driven independent of one another. I can show off and hook up my Nexiq reader if my dash pukes and read all engine parameters if I want to also but my point is if every gauge is independent of one another there will never be a need to jump through hoops to get vital information. Some times progress is not.

Yes I have a flip phone. It’s a huge step up from my bag phone. I use my phone for phone calls. When I want photos I use my camera. When I want to surf the internet I use my laptop with MyFi. When I want trip guidance I use a map and my GPS to count down distance to go. When I want to see a TV show I use my TV. And I am not the least bit worried about missing out on anything even though I don’t text, facebook, twitter, or voice mail.
