  • Update on Trip To Alaska

Posted by Bill on June 10, 2014 at 12:06 am

Just wanted to let everyone know we made it over the Alaska Highway without any issues. Gil was a huge help with suggestions and advice.

It was an amazing drive and we saw a ton of wildlife right from the bus… Elk, Moose, Bison, wild horses, deer, etc.

We added a sign to the sign post forrest in Watson Lake…

The Visitor center people in Watson Lake suggested we take our bus over the top of the world highway indicating the the road was in great shape… We confirmed with Gil that wasn’t a good plan and we were very glad we didn’t… We decided to drive our car from Tok to Chicken and then onto Dawson City and I was very glad we didn’t bring the bus. The American side of the road was mess for the last 12 miles. They are working the road and for 12 miles there were massive size very sharp rocks… that were shreading tires… we saw two disabled cars on the way….

Overall the Alaskan Highway was much better than what I was prepared for… However there was one really bad stretch 80 – 100 KM that was a total mess… we had heard stories from others that when you get there don’t go faster than 20 km… that is what we did and we fine…

So if anyone is on the fence… about making the trip… Go for it just take it slow..
