  • Understanding Country Coach 12vdc disconnect

Posted by Clint on April 2, 2025 at 11:32 am

I’m new to Country Coach, nothing broke, trying to learn.

Question: How does the 12vdc disconnect solenoid actually disconnect 12v distribution given the schematic and picture shows both the house battery connection and the 12v distribution feeder to the ECC is on the same lug of the solenoid?

After further investigation I can say now that the schematic is actually wrong and it is physically wired in such a way that makes more sense. The 12vdc feeder to the ECC is on the other side of the solenoid from the house battery and alternator – which is why it works correctly.

    My schematics are from 1998

That’s scary you could clean it up, add bus bars get everything off the batteries, I had way more cables in the early days, since then I’ve been Simplifying things

If I had a Country Coach I’d have “Gil Johnson” on speed dial :). He’s very knowledgeable on both CC and electrical stuff.

You can find him on FB Prevost Owners Group and/or FB CC Owners Group

Yep, I know Gil and have his number. I also have all the technical docs he acquired over the years.

There’s also a ex-CC employee in Tuscon AZ that specializes in CC service – especially the electrical side of things. He runs his own shop now.

And it’s surprising how many folks at Silver Leaf worked at CC years ago.

Again though, I’m not having any issues just trying to learn the CC way of doing things.

Yo Clint, Country Coach changed almost everything each year. If you don’t have schematics that were your build you can only use them as a reference.

Good point Mike, however in this situation I gotta believe that there was simply no peer review for the technical writer doing the schematics in 1998. The circuit just couldn’t provide the needed functionality if it were wired the way the schematics shows.

Regarding CC changing things, I would love to get schematics from 1999/2000. My CC manual has schematics back to 1993 and nothing newer than 1998. My bus is a 2000 conversion of a 1999 chassis.

I would disagree, Country Coach did an amazing job with their documentation and they sent it with their busses. Other Converters not so much.
