What we need is anti idiot medicine. Di wants a large bore cannon, but my concern is the cost of ammunition on a per mile basis may prove prohibitive.

Actually maybe the answer is whatever that stuff Cheech and Chong were using might do the trick. It didn’t seem like anything bothered them.

They say that hindsight is perfect sight, surely you see where I admit I was also at fault not just the errant driver being the problem, I should have been anticipating his move.

Being as I am terminally afflicted with a modern illness termed “Road Rage” it is often that I have to self diagnose myself and quickly take measures to protect not only myself, but also the general public at large. Such as in this morning. I know that all the idiots will be out and about on their collective journey’s into the Heartland to do their duties as never ending five day a week wage slaves in Oklahoma. The very LAST THING on their mind will be their driving skills.

So instead of being in a hurry to get to Twin Fountains and the Three Amigo’s, I am going to lay back, sip some coffee and let the dust settle before I go in. Slowly I reach over to the table, grab my magic 8 ball, shaking it vigorously I tip it up and look at the bottom.

    “No clear answers. Shake again.”

Thanks for the thoughts, Roger. We will miss a bit of free loadin’ off JDub and the guys and following you around picking up the loose bills falling from your bill fold. My understanding is Government Motors has issued all you car guys a secret supplement to keep you happy! Once we get over this bump in the road of life we will be back joining in on the fun.

    BCO,

Yep, one of our universal constants is the multiple times per day encounter with the highway idiots. In the summer of 2008, Carole and I were taking a casual run around America. Now one of the places I had heard was just so friendly was the Pacific Northwest, specifically Portland, Oregon. OK, so we are heading north on I-5 and we run into a late afternoon traffic jam. Turns out the jam was the result of a wreck on the I-5 northbound bridge between Oregon and Washington State. We were heading to the Jantzen Beach RV park, which does not have a beach. Traffic was backed up every which way you looked. There really was no way to get ahead of the next guy. Well there is an entry ramp at Oregon Route 99E, MLK,Jr. Blvd. Which adds a lane to I-5 between that entry ramp and the exit ramp to Jantzen Beach, a distance of about one mile. Interestingly enough, no one was using that extra lane to “get ahead” of the I-5 traffic. The entering drivers were actually merging every other car into the I-5 through lane. Until I got there. I put on my right turn signal as I wanted to exit this madness and could see the added lane was empty all the way to where I wanted to exit. No one was willing to let me move over. I let several cars come in front of me in the hope of finding one that would be so kind as to let me move into the added lane. Nope, not happening and as they say, “Hope is not a Plan.” So I begin to ease my way over trying to force my way out of the I-5 lane I did not want or need and let three more cars fill the space I vacate. Well the standoff happens with a white dually Ford pick ’em up truck. I have him squezzed so far that he has to stop with his door and my entry door side by side. I hear a thump and am told by the wife he has hit the door with the side of his hand.

I let him get moved over and he stops beside my driver’s window. I did not hear exactly what was said by him, across his wife. I opened my window, wrong move but in my defense it was the end of a long days drive and I was in sight of my destination. He actually rolled the passenger side window down and I could just see his face. After hearing some expletives deleted from him, I simply said I allways wondered what an a**hole looked like, now I know. Knowing there are many small bones in the hand, and that stainless steel – fluted too – is much harder than any thing in the human anatomy, I wished him so pain from broken bones while I motored off into the sunset.

On an 8,000 mile trip, that was the only incident of road rage I encountered. The experience in Portland was the exact opposite of the experience when arriving in San Diego at the height of PM traffic and I had to merge right three lanes. Put on the signal and every vehicle in the next lane slowed and let me move over. What nice drivers in San Diego.

OKAY, we maybe are guilty of showing A-1 and the lovely Di where ” AppleJacks’ liquor store was near our house. Buuuuutt, not being an imbiber myself, seems that big, black, hummer H2 had NO trouble finding the booze store. We did have a great visit with Jon and Di and hope they come back soon. And Di, we promise not to take you over another 12,000 ft pass. ‘-))))), even if Jon says “go for it’.again.

She wouldn’t have gone to Applejacks if you hadn’t served such a fine wine. She said she had to get some.

We’ll be back, but now that she has been snookered twice to go up a mountain I suspect she will not allow that to happen again.
