Ugly fix revisited
Installed the Ugly Fix late last year and was pleased how the oil cleaned up and the mileage made a slight but positive improvement. Have recently noticed a fair amount of white smoke, not condensation, on start up and under acceleration. Is their a correlation? Am about to change back to the factory sensor but would appreciate some knowledgeable and unbiased input (or reference thereto). Thanks

White smoke is typically, bad injector, low compression, antifreeze (coolant in today’s world).

No need to switch back to the old sensor to test.
***Have “heard” but do not know this for a fact, that if your Ugly Fix works now, be certain to not allow anyone who works on your bus to update the DD software as afterward the UF may no longer work.

That be the case with the white smoke I would give a call to American Fleet in Springfield, MO
Just a WAG …#6 cylinder with a leaking head gasket.

Under a load? white smoke is water, head gasket maybe, and hope NOT a cylinder, change antifreeze lately??????

Could be a leaking injector tube in the head.

We left Freightliner NW on Thursday 5K poorer and with 6 new injectors. No improvement in smoke. After 400 miles we’re back in FL NW parking lot to be first in Monday morning. During the trip I removed the ugly fix and smoke immediately lessened. Still some but not nearly as bad. Several months ago we had a 147 code (VNT blades not responding). FL NW reminded me of this since it was the only code active or inactive. The tech who originally read the code opined it could be a failing EGR valve. FL NW disagreed. Ugly fix remains uninstalled for now but power loss and lower oil pressure were immediately apparent with removal. Will negotiate for new EGR valve without labor. Will advise. Comments welcome.
