  • Two AC compressors?

Posted by Dick on December 18, 2021 at 1:30 pm

I’m helping a racing friend spend his money on a Prevost Coach. I ran across this 45′ 1996 Liberty that is already sold. What I can’t figure out is what’s being powered by the Series 60 engine.

On the curb side of the photo I see the big Carrier AC compressor for the OTR/bus air.

On the drivers side I see another device being powered by the “back side” of the miter box that drives the radiator fan.

Is that another AC compressor? Is that a drivers/dash AC compressor in addition to the OTR compressor?

If I were to guess, that coach is a Classic with the device by the fan clutch a 12V house alternator.

Ahhhhh … you’re probably right. It does have five pairs of clearance lights along the side, but I can’t see any touchscreens. The taillight surrounds appear not to be stainless steel.

I don’t think Prevost would put A/C compressors on the driver side because of the a/c hoses and fan clutch being on that side.

On our 98 Parliament conversion I have a dash air compressor mounted there.

    Paul,

I’m perplexed to think Prevost would do that. So the a/c compressor would have to be turned and the clutch facing the side of the motor and turbo heat and fan heat plus hoses in that tight space just doesn’t make sense. Did they stack it on top or behind the pulley?

Send a picture if you can please.

My ’98 CC has the same A/C setup on the drivers side. That’s dash A/C only. On the right side CC installed another A/C compressor that provide “bus like” air for the midship and rear with 2 3 speed fans inside to adjust the temps.

There’s nothing unusual about Pauls setup with the York compressor, that was the standard setup.
