Turbo making jet engine noise
On the way home today, lost turbo boost when going over bridges or trying to pass on the freeway. See the picture of the culprit – new $42 part to be here in 48 hours. My coach sounds like a jet plane taking off when you press the gas pedal.

Pat, where specifically was this hose in the intake system?
More specifically is it in the part of the system between the turbo and the intercooler?

Part number 34. $ 42. Hose clamp was put on TOO CLOSE to the edge so it caused the hose to rip open.

The reason the location is important is between the turbo and intercooler on EGR equipped coaches the air temperatures can reach 500 degrees F.
When the EGR is engaged turbo boost will approach 50 PSI although the turbo boost gauge will only show 30 PSI.
With the heat of the compressed air combined with the pressure the hoses have to be capable of handling the pressure and heat and some hoses are only rated for 350 degrees or if rated up to 500 they have a duty cycle that limits how long they can be exposed to the EGR generated pressures and temps. The color of those hoses is blue.
While I am sure most of the time the Prevost installed blue hoses will provide reasonable service they do have a duty cycle. The safest hose to use are usually those red or orange in color rated for 500 degrees continuous duty.

Swapped out the hose with the assistance of Bob Meurer. Part # 513469 for $39.79. Could only put one hose clamp on left side as not enough room for second clamp as it would have pinched the new hose right at the pipe connection. I believe the original dual clamp pinched the original blue hose and caused it to rip right at the pipe connection.

Seeing that red hose to replace the blue one gives me a warm toasty feeling knowing it is the right one.
Everyone whose EGR coach has blue hoses on the section between the turbo and the intercooler should be especially vigilant and inspect those hoses as part of a pre-trip inspection. Replace any hoses that are questionable with hoses rated for 500 degrees continuous operation.

emergency road fix—part of my road kit is a roll of gorilla duct tape—I did wrap several layers around split turbo hose with clamps off then reinstalled. made it to my barn about 30 miles. –rest of story found extra hoses in bottom of tool box in bus…senior moment.!?
