TSD loses Pilot discount
Posted by Dick on March 3, 2020 at 6:41 pmPosted to TSD Fuel Program Facebook page:
As of the end of the week, Pilot is officially retracting their discounts from our program due to their relationship with Good Sams. Good Sams has an exclusive contract with Pilot which prevents them from giving any discounts to the RV community through any other means. Every other discount is still in place.

I hope we don’t get screwed by the RVers who take 20 gallons at a time, and I hope Pilot gets them all.

Dick does this include Flying J ? Just wondering since Pilot owns them.

I can hardly wait to go to Pilot/FlyingJ to get the 10 cent discount provided by Good Sam membership.

There is a large and quite active Facebook group for the TSD Fuel Program users. Many were awfully upset over the loss of Flying J/Pilot deep discount over the apparent CW agreement.
Some of the more vocal participants have reached out to both CW and FJ/P to express their displeasure. Some have cancelled their Good Sam membership while others have said will not renew.
This grass roots movement has apparently gotten the attention of both CW and FJ/P customer service centers to the point of the companies both reaching out to complainants to get more background on the issue.

What deep discount at Pilot/Flying J Dick, it was just cash price I believe?

See below a copy of the email message that I just sent to GSC.
Good morning,
I am an RV person (Prevost XLV Country Coach) and have recently gotten the news that the fuel discount program that I use has been cancelled with Pilot and Flying J due to a contract issue with the Good Sam Club. This is to inform you that I will be severing all ties with Camping World and the Good Sam Club. Not only am I avoiding doing business with you, I will use whatever influence that I might have to influence others to avoid CW and GSC also. Have a nice day.

From FB this morning:
I received the following response this morning from Pilot about the TSD discount issue. Note that the response does not mention Good Sam at all.
“Thank you for contacting us regarding this issue. It was recently brought to our attention that TSD Logistics was reselling fuel by offering their discounts outside of their company. We were unaware of this activity and did not agree to the resale of our fuel.
We appreciate your business and are available to discuss this directly by contacting us at (865) 474-3986.”
Tom: I think there was a bigger discount than cash, but not as good as Love’s. I don’t recall Pilot/FJ as being “green”.

Good morning everyone. I know everyone is disappointed with the Pilot decision; however, they were only a small portion of what is being purchased through our program. I am disappointed as well, because we had approval from our representative at Pilot who is no longer there, but I understand that if they signed a contract they have to honor that contract.
We didn’t even have a discount with them until November, and even with that discount, they have never been the best price. Our other retailers have always been lower on their prices than Pilot. For those of you who still want to stop there, I encourage you to do so and use whatever discount card is available to you. We have always encouraged our customers to do a price check with all discount cards and apps to get the best price. We only want you to use our card if it helps you get the best rate.
The other truck stops continue to offer great discounts and we thank you for your continued support.

I really don’t care as I went to Love’s almost exclusively. But, reading between the lines….The Good Sam discount is 8 or 10 cents per gallon…my best guess is that the deep discount that TSD was getting at Pilot FJ is going to Good Sam and they keep 75% and give out 25% or less. No wonder they forced the issue….money talks.

What is disturbing about this is Pilot treat the TSD program we are involved in as reselling of fuel. Right now all we need is for small purchases to make Love’s re-examine their agreement with TSD and shut RVs (including us) from the program.
What is sad is that right now Love’s, TSD and RVs all benefit. Love’s get volume. TSD gets volume. RVs get discounts. Yes some RVs will continue to buy fuel at Love’s and not get a discount, but those that lose the discount are going to be driving to their local supermarket fuel islands so they can use their value card to get bigger discounts than they can at Love’s or Pilot.
