Here’s why you’ll never see me parking in a Truckstop.

Tom, it is called “truck stop” for a reason. It is for trucks, anyways, not for RV’s.
Aside from what is shown in this video, if you enter a busy truck stop with your RV/motorcoach/Prevost, you will be seen as an intruder taking up valuable parking space meant for truckers who need to rest.
For that simple reason, we do not use truck stops at all. Period.
It is either a rest area open to all or a commercial RV park.
We do not use Walmart’s, either. But that is mostly due to the fact, that we have restless nights with all the pickup traffic that stops and oogles Olivia.

We’ve always had good experiences at Flying J’s – BUT we will only go there if it’s one with the dedicated RV spots up front. I’ve seen many a Prevost at them and the trucks are not allowed/don’t park in those spots. Lots of the time we are the only RV there.
Our bus paint is really plain – honestly… I don’t think anyone has ever oogled our bus. Or, maybe it’s because I’m really bad about washing it.
But if I saw Olivia in person I’d be out oogling it!

At a Loves in TN, waiting to enter fueling, i sat and watched a trucker attempt to back his tractor/trailer into a spot. After about the 8th attempt, he finally wedged it in. I was about to go back it in for him! He had the entire fueling lines blocked. I suspect he could be in the mentioned video!

I’ve never driven a semi. Just the Suburban and 45′ Prevost towing the 26′ enclosed race trailer with a 5′ tongue.
From my humble perspective, its a matter of geometry between the tractor and the trailer. I receive FB posts from Twisted Trucker and the “weird” things I see posted are beyond comprehension. I discovered once I understood the geometry between the tractor/bus/truck and the trailer, my ability to safely maneuver and park the trailer got much, much easier.

At least the video demonstrates the usefulness of a dash cam.

I spend lots of nights in truck stops if I can’t find rest area parking. I always try to get an end spot or drive through which lessons the likelihood of being hit. I have been bumped once and it was an attempted ‘bump and run” but my flight attendant is a light sleeper!
I’ve generally been treated very well by the truckers but that could be because I’m almost 74′ with the stacker; large enough they must not consider me an RV interloper.

Just spent an afternoon practicing a class A combo straight,offset and dock backup parking. It’s stressful, add in it actual truck on either side of the painted lines and I am sure it’s even worse.
With toads, we never backup. Trailers, I always made sure I had plenty of room to backup. By itself, im solid on my surroundings.
What that video taught me was never park on the end of a row 🙂

We sell way too many bumpers because of these poor drivers. I had one the other day that was thankful that the guy who hit his truck only got the bumper and not the rest of the front end. I have seen the entire front end taken off. Hood, air to air, radiator, even front tires and occasionally the front axle too.
I go to truck stops to get fuel and leave. I use my fuel card and never leave the coach.

What is is worth to you to have me not send Tam a password and a link to this thread? I am not getting my share of dues money so I am doing everything I can do to get money from other sources.
