  • TRS and SRS Location

Posted by Bill on May 7, 2018 at 11:10 pm

I have an ’88 Prevost with a DDEC I and I am seeing a code 42 related to the SRS. In following the trouble shooting guide I need to disconnect the SRS plug and take another reading. It appears that the TRS and SRS are located UNDER the EDM module at the top front side (rear) of the engine. Do I really have to remove that module and the mounting bracket to get to these components? I have to determine if I have a short, and open circuit or a bad SRS.

Thanks in advance for any help.

We replaced the SRS this summer on our DDEC V. Looking at the engine it’s on the right side just to the left and below the oil dip stick – if I recall correctly. I needed a mirror to see it since it is behind the “fly wheel”? cover. It senses top dead center. We got a check engine light while driving but the engine ran normally. It wouldn’t start though after it was shut off since it lost the timing reference. If I recall the TRS is down low on the passenger or right side of the engine. Both are usually replaced together.

I don’t know if the DDEC I is simialr to the DDEC V though.

I should have mentioned 8V92. Maybe someone can help.

Both sensors are located under the ECM and are behind the pulley on the left camshaft as you look at the engine from the rear. They are held in a bracket and are adjustable a little bit.

The ECM needds to be removed to gain access to the hold down bolt.

Thank you so much. That seemed to be the location I could determine but it’s nice to have confirmation. To trace down the issue I have to unplug the SRS and take another reading to try to determine if there is a short, and open line or a bad SRS. I have had problems for years after Stewart & Stevenson did some work and it’s always seemed like they changed the timing somehow. The Pyros show the engine exhaust temps much higher than before S&S did whatever they did. Not sure why this error code has not showed up before but it would be nice if it were some part of the way to a solution.

If I get some time off work I will dig in and see what I can find. Does anyone know if the SRS and TRS parts are still available and if so where I should look for a source should it be necessary?

    Thanks again.
