    Hey guys,

We are just over a month into our trip and I am quickly starting to hate trees…. We aren’t exactly taking the back roads but I am finding even in and around pretty big cities that low lying trees are popping up a lot more often than i would hope. We hit some crazy low stuff outside Charleston on the way to Myrtle Beach and then again in VA near williamsburg. I try to change lanes and avoid them when I can, slow down when I can’t but I have already lost two of my 4 awning wind sensors on the Curb side… I am considering not even having them replaced as I never leave the awnings out when I am not around.

    Anyone else have this problem?

Try to stay on truck routes and interstate highways. You will have less problems that way. If you have a setting in your GPS for trucks or bus, use that. It will usually avoid low clearance routes.

We all have that problem Bill and your more prone having an H that
is probably right at 13′ 6″. That’s the legal limit for trucks,
you can’t be any higher. I have a constant battle with the county I
live in trying to keep the overhead limbs trimmed. There policy is to
trim to 14′, if and when they do it. I often have to use the other
lane, but it’s a country road.

It never fails, you call the campground for a reservation and
voice your concerns over tree’s, they tell you they keep them well
trimmed and when you get there, it’s like an obstacle course getting
    to your site.

Trimming to 14ft really doesn’t do alot of good because when it rains or snows the limbs will hang much lower due to the added weight. Most trees grow 3 to 6 inches per year. And some white pines will grow up to 12 inches per year! It really doesn’t take any more time to cut 2 more feet off to gain a few more years of growth. Try to explain that to a tight budgeted town. In the long run it would cost less to maintain the road height but some how they don’t understand that. Rick

Amen, on the tree thing I have to negotiate about 400 ft of county road when I pull off the Parkway, trouble is it is national park service land that ajoins me and they do not trim in my area. I have lost a couple wind sensors and they are expsensive to replace. Soooo I just crank the old chain saw up at night and trim for them, have not got caught yet. The worst senerio is freezing rain on already low limbs at times I just have to wait for a thaw before leaving in the winter. other times I avoid low limbs and campgrounds with them, I try to pull up the campground on the internet and veiw the layout and sites! As hated as Carefree Awnings are, they at least had the sense to abandon the always broken rooftop wind sensor for a vibration sensing system that mounts to the open end of the awning. The good news is really works. That was mu last coach. My current coach has the fail safe manual ZipDees. If they are out when the wind picks up I lnow exactly what failed…
