Has anyone recently taken their bus north on the I 25 thru Colorado. I will be making a run from Phoenix to Hot Springs South Dakota in about two weeks and was wondering what to expect if I take the 25 north from Albuquerque all the way up thru Colorado and then pick up the 85 north of Cheyenne and take that thru to Hot Springs. Or is there a better route to consider.

    Thanks

    Alex

Alex, I25 should be fine, traffic sometimes gets heavy around Colorado Springs north to Denver. I always take E470 around Denver to the east, it’s a toll road but a helluva lot better than going through Denver. The Fort Collins area can also be congested depending of the time of day. Other than that, no biggie that I can think of.

Alex, there are several “lane shifts” between Loveland and Ft Collins with tight bends as you are directed by jersey walls. Some of the lane shifts involve pavement changes that they really havent created good transitions, so slow speed less than 40 naybe required. Best to drive it in daylight. We last drove the area at 9:30 at night September 6th. Having not intended driving 600 miles that day, but family medical issue prevented us from spending nite in S Wyoming. It was more tedious being tired

Last friday drove I25 southbound between Walsenburg, CO and Raton, CO. No problem.

Down to 1 lane each way on the southside of Raton pass still, and 1 lane is closed in Trinidad, CO for about a half mile. No big deal.

we avoided the stretch north at Berthoud all the way to Ft Collins due to the very narrow construction lanes when we went to Spearfish. 287 slow but doable,

on return we came down 71 then 76 which was fine.

    All,

Thanks for the input. I plan on driving it during daylight. I will take a look at the suggestions to avoid the congestion areas. The last time I went thru Colorado, I found myself on the 70. That was an experience that I would rather not repeat.
