  • Transmission Temperature Dash Gauge Not Working

Posted by Michael on March 14, 2022 at 11:45 am

    Hi all:

I searched and did not see this discussed so thought I would create a new thread. The gauge on the dash for transmission temperature has not been working for some time. I thought I would take it on and see if I can figure it out. I took a look around the Prevost wiring diagrams and can’t find the reference to the sensor or wiring from the transmission to the gauge. I am wondering if anyone has diagnosed this before and has any experience to share? Oh, I was able to get a new gauge and it did not solve it, so I think it is likely the sender or something along the way to the gauge.

    Thanks as always!!

It’s a bit of a strain for me to get back to my earlier XL dash but are you sure it’s trans temp and not diff temp?

Have you looked behind the dash to check the wiring? Maybe a bad or loose ground.

The trans and the engine have computers. I suspect that trans temp signal to the gauge probably comes from one of those computers.

Have you tried calling Prevost PASS: 800-463-7738. Operators are waiting to take your call now!

    Thanks Dick.

I have not tried calling PASS as I did not think they addressed these type of questions. I will definitely give it a try. I will also recheck the gauge wiring.

    Thanks for the response.

Are you sure it is transmission Temperature?

Yes, I took a picture and attached it as well as the dash guide from the manual which outlines it as transmission temp in that slot.

Ok great! Just asking because we have had some folks confused on that Gauge in the past. I thought initially on my bus it was Differential Temperature. I have a sensor in my differential, but can’t figure out where it terminates.

Yes, it is not obvious in the electrical diagrams like the speedometer or odometer. I would have assume the transmission diagram would have a reference but didn’t see anything obvious. Anyway, I will try some more diagnosis on the rear of the gauge then try PASS to see if they can give advice on where to go from there. I am going to be at Prevost in Winter Garden and will ask around as well, although I find they do not always know on the older coaches either. I find they often want to charge for diagnosis rather than give distinct advice.
