Trailer brake wiring
I’m installing an electric brake controller on my 1999 Featherlight and have the wiring figured out (I think). Can anyone tell me which wire or terminal runs from th e front electrical panel to the rear elactrical panel and where is the best location in the rear compartment to tap on to a 12 volt feed to the trailer that would go on and off with the ignition. Prevost was no help. Thanks in advance.

Wire front to back would be found in both the front junction area under the drivers seat and then in the rear run box above the engine. Spare wires are grey in color, with the numbers in the insulation of the wire. Sometimes there is not one wire heavy enough gauge to handle the brakes, so you might need to use two wires. Some of the spares will be outside the rear run box not only inside of it. Same up front, as they could be under the lower section of the front access…Hope this helps to get you started

On our coach, under my finger, is a good source of non-keyed 12v power back in the engine compartment electrical box. The post to the right is 24v and the post on the far left is grd.
You might want to consider a “wireless” brake controller like the Prodigy RF. I don’t like installing under dash controllers in every vehicle we tow the trailer with, and we didn’t need to chase wires from one end of the Prevost to the other. The controller brains are bolted on the tongue and a cigarette lighter FOB is the control that is carried from tow vehicle to tow vehicle. Works great, last a long time.

Thanks Jeff for the info,I found a spare ( I think) pin 47 up front to pin 43 in rear junction. Should I not use this wire as it looks like a # 10 or 12 and find the spares and use them or would it be safe to use 47 to 43.

Thanks for the info I like the wireless idea but I intend to pull different trailers so I want a permanent brake controller in the bus.

You can use that as long as it is the only wire on the peg on each end…..sometimes they are in place like that and not used….

If you have your electrical wiring diagram go to page “d” and you will find the spare wires that Prevost puts in to the shell when it is built. If you do not have the diagrams you can get them online from the Prevost website. Here is the link to the page itself: https://secure5.volvo.com/technical publications/pdf/D060874pdr16.pdf. As Jeff has said some are in the front and rear electrical junction boxes and some are outside. They are gray and each wire has a piece of heat shrink on the end of the wire. The wire numbers are heat stamped in the wires every 8-12 inches. See if this helps.
