  • Trailer brake system?

Posted by Travis on May 20, 2013 at 11:17 pm

is there any chance that my 94 Liberty Lady has a “built in” trailer brake controller that I don’t know about?

is it pre wired for a controller or do you have to run the wires?

I would not run wires most brake controllers need 12 volt at brake pedal Prevost is 24 volt u can buy tekonsha prodigy that mounts on trailer remote plugs into cigarette lighter no wiring required I have one works great

I don’t want to say my method is recommended (put long form disclaimer here) but I’ve installed trailer brake controllers in my trailers in all instances with the Prevost’s and been fine. It takes a little messing around to get the brake bias close initially but it’s been fine. In both cases, these were enclosed trailers and I’ve probably erred on too little brake but they’re pretty heavy to start with. You could probably experiment and mark an ’empty’ and a ‘loaded’ position on your control. Obviously, if you’re talking about an open trailer that’s very light and relatively heavy loaded, you’ll definitely need 2 settings.
