  • Tow wiring and back up camera ! Anyone seen this?

Posted by Glenn on June 13, 2014 at 2:07 pm

Hey all, trying to get things sorted to hit the road. I need to contact Marathon with this probably as it is specific to my coach (cameras) but I am wondering if any of you are familiar with this type of setup.

My coach was ordered with a camera connection for the back of the trailer as well as two cameras inside the trailer, the switches for these are on the driver panel, and seem to work as when you engage them with coach b/u cam on screens change looking for a signal (obviously not there yet).

On the back of the coach I have what I think is a 10 pin Euro connector, not sure if this is wired for the additional cameras or not, but am assuming so….but it is damaged and needs to be replaced.

I also have a 5 pin connector and some air connects, probably won’t use these.

Finally there is a 7 pin outlet, same style I currently use on my fifth wheel, but this is solid mounted in the engine compartment, do you guys normally just make an extension cable of some sort and run it out under the bumper or something to connect to the trailer?

If anyone has any info on this setup I would appreciate it!

Step one……..figure out if one or both trailer plugs work, and if they both do, figure out which one you will use. Make that one the most convenient for you for hooking to the trailer.

I wouldn’t do anything with the rear TV plug unless and until you get your trailer and have it equipped with the camera. Different cameras have different wire feeds.

Yeah going to test the wiring today, will probably use 7 way plug and make an extension for it. Marathon is looking in their archive to see if they can find which plug the trailer cams are tied to…the wiring and switches are in the back wadrobe for it, or at least appear so, just not sure which plug they feed into.

    G-Man,

I have a similair looking air connection on my 07… I had it checked out and its a modulated airline for Towd braking so I used it without any modification for my air force one breaking system.

I am jealous on the camera setup you have. I have a three horse trailer with cameras that I towed with our old coach that I haven’t figured out how to convert to the bus as I haven’t had the horses out yet.. The camera I have inside the trailer also has built in mic so I could hear what was going on back there as well.

Bill, the original owner spec’d it this way as his horse trailer at the time was wired with cameras, although I do not think he did much towing with it.

Have not received an answer from Marathon yet, I do hope it is wired up some how…it should be….I got an extension made for the 7 way pin and will use that for the new trailer.

Next to the air line are what appear to be two electrical connections, am not familiar with them but I guess some kind of electric brake setup maybe?

Do any of you guys have this on your Prevost’s?

Looks like it was added by Marathon, but am not sure, would seem it could be the connector I am looking for, it is a 14 pin round style made by Amphenol.

Thanks Jim, that would be awesome, not sure if I will use it in my setup but it would be great to fix my beat up one!

Great speaking with you, I learned so much!
