With that much rot, did it soot up the side or rear of the bus as well? How old was the coach, and was it the original muffler?

Side of the coach wasn’t bad but engine and rear of coach were covered.
Its a 2007 coach with what I’m assuming is original muffler and exhaust system. Glad the coach was in for service. The heat had started to compromise a few hoses.

Good point Jon! But who can hear that 40 some feet away up front and the Lennon Sisters playing on the eight track.

Seems like an early failure, maybe a northern bus subject to salt or one that towed a boat launching in salt water boat ramp.
