Torque Multiplier
I use a 4 foot long Proto torque wrench to torque my wheels on, They torque to 450 to 500 lbs. When I do that it takes about all I got to get 480 lbs, I’ve heard of a torque multiplier, Is it easier to use then a torque wrench? Does anyone use one, and have any info?

I have had one 7 years yes they work don’t remember what I torpedo to it is easy to ge to tight

I use an X-12, bought about 29 years ago. It works slick, but it is heavy and awkward to use. Despite its cumbersome nature I am not aware of anything that can apply torque as accurately and consistently. With it I just use a 1/2″ drive torque wrench.
Only in recent years have I noticed tire changers torquing the lug nuts. Until then, when questioned they all were geniuses and could tell by feel they were torqued correctly, or they just didn’t give a shit.
My 1″ impact wrench can crack wheels.

My 1 inch impact will to, I have a 3/4 impact that I tighten up with then I use my 3/4 inch Proto torque wrench to finish, It’s a work out.

The Porsche center lock wheel requires 450ft lbs, so I use a torque multiplier with a half inch torque wrench, model Neiko 03715B. The planetary gear set is 3.3:1. But there is .3 mechanical loss, so it is effectively 3:1. Also have that four foot six hundred foot pound jobby, but prefer the multiplier set up because it’s difficult to keep the big one square on the nut while applying the force.
