For those who wash their own buses, what tools are you liking best?

A long handled brush for washing, old towels for drying and a California duster to brush off the lint when it dries.

We have hard water here in California, I can only wash 1/4 of the bus at a time, then i use my leaf blower to dry it before the spots show up.

I rent di tanks.with softner water feed. real close too spot free. FYI.

Jon- Long handled brush, I will get one. Do you like the “flow through” versions where you can connect to a hose?
Mike- Ditto, hard water up in northern CA as well. The leaf blower drying technique is a GREAT idea!
Terry- Not sure where to get soft water around here, except rain water, and we’re almost past that season. What about adding some vinegar to a couple 5 gallon buckets of water to cut the spotting?

Vinegar is acidic, it will remove any wax or protection you have put on the bus, although it will assist in removing hard water spots.

I tried two different long brush handles with flow through and both were junk and failed quickly. I use a 5 gallon pail with soapy water to keep the brush wet.
The single long extendable I use I have had for 32 years. Collapsed it is about 3 feet long and about 8 feet fully extended.

Early in our coach ownership life we were naive. We bought one of those flow through long handled brush devices. In theory it looked slick. In practice though when it was full of water (now heavy) and hooked to the hose (more weight on the end to drag it down) I found it awkward to use at best. I think the first time I used it I washed the coach from the curb side engine bay to entertainment bay and had to take a nap.
I still use the device, but rarely hook up the hose. I use a hand sprayer on the hose now. Easier to handle. I put quick disconnects on the device (all my hoses and all coach garden hose connections have quick disconnect fittings). If its windy out I often will hook the hose to the device so I can wet and rinse the high parts of the coach that the handle sprayer can’t reach due to the wind.
I typically use a liquid automotive car wash soap in the bucket. If the coach was really, really dirty I used to toss in a little Dawn; see below.
On one of the Prevost Facebook pages when I mentioned that I’ll use Dawn in the bucket if the coach is really trashed, I was quickly chided for using Dawn because its apparently harsh enough to take the wax off the paint. I suppose it is. Not sure if I’ll continue to use Dawn. I guess we want something aggressive enough to clean the coach, but not harsh enough to go after the wax. I was also cautioned to use a special brush (lamb’s wool?) because synthetic brush bristles can scratch the finish on the coach.
I’ve been to Blue Beacon two or three times in eight years of ownership. But due to reports of acid in the BB system (they might recycle the water), I’m rethinking that. All the times we used BB we splurged for the Rain-X treatment. That seemed to last many months, maybe a year or more. When the coach was dirty and it rained later, I’d say the coach was 98% “clean” just from the rain, clean enough I didn’t feel the urge to wash the coach.

Ok, long handled brush, no flow through (sound reasoning). 5 gallon bucket, no vinegar, gentle cleanser (not dawn). lots of towels and I like the leaf blower drying technique.

Dawn, Brushes, Leaf Blowers. A rain rinse.

LUC. i have a water softner. and feed the di tanks from the softner. i rent the tanks from our culligan company. i do all my cars and trucks. my tanks last me way over 12 months sometimes 24. our water in the desert areas very hard.
