  • Tool box slide

Posted by June on November 15, 2015 at 8:33 pm

Thank you Jeff for finding this little gem in your backroom for us! We decided not to cut it down as we may change tool boxes at a later date. All Donald did was to give a new coat of paint, add a couple of supports accross the middle, a plywood deck topped with carpet, and add a metal stop on our existing slide. He bolted it down, cut down the wood support across the front, and I glued the carpet back around the ends.

Should we now label our coach as a Marathon-Liberty hybrid?

    Very nice.

Is that the door mat hanging on the forward wall of the bay? If so, another great idea.

Has anyone considered reducing the size of the Joey Bed so the tool box didn’t sit on the Joey Bed and rather sit on the floor of the bay, which would allow for a taller tool box?

Our Liberty tool tray is at the front of the the first bay like where Donald and June put theirs, most of hte Liberty’s I’ve seen also have the tool box in this location. I would presume the tool box would be much heavier than just about anything else that is put in the bay.

So why is the tool box so far forward? Why wouldn’t the tool box be put in the back of the bay, moving some weight off the front of the coach.

Of course it’s door mat with logo, standard owner convenience for Marathon!

No, the PC logo is on the back of the coach in one of the license plate spots 😉 It’s nice to know that Marathon has something that Liberty does not! LOL 😉

As far as configuration, we just went with what we saw in the other coaches. I would say at this point we would not want to have a bigger or taller box just because of the weight factor (the bigger the tool box…). Whether one side of the bay or the other would make that much difference on the front axle, I don’t know. Our joey is one piece versus two pieces as we have seen in some of the Liberty coaches. We also have a workbench with drawers on the driver’s side of the joey, but we did not want to have to be in traffic to get to the tools if we broke down on the side of the road (a dangerous place to be). Ultimately, I think a utility truck as a tow vehicle is the answer. All the tools, parts, and a spare tire could be stowed in it!

    Hi Guys,

Nice job on the tool box. We were parked beside you at the ETLC seminar and may have to copy your idea for the tool box setup. Ours is on the driver side also, not a good idea.

Will be looking for a similar setup as you have to make the change but need to add a complete slide to accomplish the project.

Nice meeting both of you, and thanks for the info on the windshield shades.
